I contacted a therapist through Psychology Today. My cousin is a counselor and posts her availability on this site and I felt it was trustworthy. Beware and make sure the therapist does not work for Thriveworks. I was informed I would have a small co-pay and they would accept Medicare's payment. They charged me $380.00. I read on another review that they will charge for cancelled visits. I had to cancel my debit card, issue a dispute and change all of my payment information on all of my accounts. I should have looked at reviews before trusting them.

Thriveworks is a SHAM!
I had a virtual session scheduled with a psychiatric nurse practioner, allegedly supervised by an actual MD. She wasted 45 minutes of my time and probably charged her time too my insurance carrier. She was utterly worthlesss.
She went on to refer me to psychiatrist Mustafa Hussain, who I know personally, and provided me with a phone number no longer in service.
Thriveworks is a SHAM!

This company appears to be more concerned about their earnings than their patients/those they supposed to care for…
This company has the worst customer service ever!!! The representatives here are not customers service friendly and very Apathetic to your situation or the reason you are calling. You can call 100 times in a day regarding an issue or a concern and each representative spoken to will give you a different answer without a resolution. I have never experienced such poor communication and service with a company. It appears to me that this company is most concerned about their earnings than the wellbeing of their customers/patients/clients. Shame on you owners of thriveworks. Do better!!!!

Terrible
It’s actually funny that Thriveworks gives itself 4.4 stars on its website and I had to work to find a third party site to place my review. This practice is horrible. You can never actually contact the therapist directly. If there’s a billing issue or any other kind of issue, you have to go through Thriveworks, and their customer service is terrible. I don’t have a lot of good things to say about the therapist, either. It’s just talk therapy and she didn’t even use the whole hour.

I tried two therapists with Thriveworks…
I tried two therapists with Thriveworks before I decided the company itself was not honest, and my time could be better spent elsewhere. Neither therapists had the qualifications and certifications listed on their profile and that they discussed with me during intake. Frankly, trying to pretend you have the capabilities to take on any kind of serious or high-risk case, or something more specialized as my own, is a serious malpractice that is almost always more detrimental than helpful to the patient's condition. If you want someone to talk about your feelings with, these are the therapists for you. If you want assistance in bettering your condition, research and peer-reviewed-backed practices, or to actually develop healthier habits and thought pathways so you don't always end up back in the same spot, please find someone with proper licensure and updated certification.

Hello Cora! Thank you for sharing your concerns. We're sorry to hear that your experience wasn't what you expected. That said, their areas of specialty can vary depending on individual training and preferences. We're committed to offering high-quality care and would love to address any issues you encountered if you can contact us at [email protected]. Please include your name, phone number, and a brief description of the issue, and we'll be happy to look into your account and figure things out together. We appreciate your feedback!

If I could give 0 stars
If I could give 0 stars, I would.
My experience with Thriveworks during these past few years was horrible. I admit, there were issues where I was definitely wrong; however, this was my last straw.
I was prescribed a mood stabilizer and had an appointment a month after being prescribed to see my progress. Unfortunately, I had a severe allergic reaction, which resulted in me at the emergency room for a week. "Seems like it did more harm than good," the doctors told me. A week after this incident, my account would be terminated for not paying my bill. I went on the Thriveworks website, logged into my account, and saw that my credit card was on file, so I moved along with my life. A week later, my account was terminated. I could not speak to my psychiatrist (and still haven't!) about my experience with the prescription.
Now this is where I am truly disappointed and upset with this company. I called Thriveworks to speak about my outstanding bill and why my account was terminated, since I saw that a card was on file on my end. The lady did not explain the error and repeatedly asked for my credit card (which I found rude and unhelpful when I looking at the card on file on the website at the same time). I told her I wanted to speak to someone about this error and how I thought it was unfair that my services were terminated when, on my end, there was a card on file. She told me she would forward my information to a supervisor and that they would call me on Monday. I waited all of Monday and never received a call. I called again, addressed my issue, and explained that I was expecting a call back. The lady over the phone told me that my card may not have gone through because there's no money on it (it's a credit card, so I'm not sure how that's possible) or that it was expired/close to expiring (it expires in two years). I explained that it couldn't have been possible since they had charged my card just a few weeks ago, and that I wanted to speak to someone who could help me more. She explained to me that callbacks are scheduled (I was not informed of this when I called on Sunday) and that no one had noted that I was to receive a callback. Not to mention, I've been waiting for the surveys at the end of the calls, and the first lady hung up on me, and the second lady stayed on the line on mute for 30 minutes before hanging up. I still want to complete my survey on this.
Disappointed does not express how I feel about this company. I joined Thriveworks based on their mission, but they have caused me nothing but more stress. I will not be returning, and I am certainly not recommending this company to anyone.

ThriveWorks Is in the Business of Billing, Not Healing
ThriveWorks had the chance to protect me from abuse. Instead, they did nothing. They failed at the most basic duty of any mental health provider: to protect clients from harm. I came to them vulnerable, and I left deeply traumatized by one of their own clinicians. Multiple people were made aware of what happened, acknowledged it was wrong, and still chose not to act. I now have to live with the consequences of their silence.
I received individual counseling from Chris and couples counseling from Curtis Thornton. When Curtis caused serious damage, I reached out for help, both to Chris and to ThriveWorks as a company, and was denied support on every level.
Curtis ignored my PTSD diagnosis, falsely claimed to perform required safety screenings, and made a disturbing comment about my disability. I brought up domestic violence in the relationship, and he failed to conduct an assessment. He missed clear signs of coercive control and, despite stating he could not treat couples where domestic violence was present, continued sessions and ultimately blamed me in front of my abuser. This deepened the trauma and put my safety at risk.
Chris recognized that what Curtis had done was inappropriate and harmful, and helped confirm those concerns in conversation, yet he took no action to report Curtis or protect me. ThriveWorks also refused to help. I stayed loyal to both Chris and ThriveWorks, and they failed me.
After receiving no support in addressing the trauma caused by Curtis, I eventually connected with new clinicians in a different healthcare system. The contrast has been startling. I didn’t realize how excellent trauma-informed care could be, and I deeply regret staying with ThriveWorks after they let me down.
ThriveWorks initially showed light interest in what had happened, but quickly stopped responding. They had every opportunity to take accountability, and they chose not to. My situation has since been reviewed by medical professionals and trauma experts outside of ThriveWorks, and the harm I experienced is documented in my medical record as legitimate and serious. ThriveWorks let all of it go.
In addition to clinical harm, ThriveWorks made repeated billing errors, including double billing and charges for properly cancelled appointments. I spent over 14 hours on customer service calls and emails trying to resolve these issues. On top of that, I’ve had to pay out of pocket to process the trauma that Curtis and Chris caused me.
If you are vulnerable, disabled, or seeking trauma-informed care, I urge you to proceed with caution. ThriveWorks is not in the business of healing—they’re in the business of billing.
In the end, ThriveWorks protected their brand and their bottom line, not me.
