I'm a retail quant trader working on my own, and finding good historical options data at a fair price has been a real headache for me. I started with ThetaData's free plan just to check the quality, and honestly I was impressed: when I compared their end-of-day chains with my own database, bid and ask matched almost to the cent. So I upgraded to Options Value to get 1-minute XSP quotes for a 0DTE/1DTE study. The download went well, and the data passed every check I threw at it: no gaps, no duplicates, nothing strange. What really made the difference, though, was the support. Anthony answered all my questions with patience and real technical knowledge – how many requests I could run at once, how strike_range works, even a tip about VPNs that fixed a connection problem I'd been fighting with all evening. It felt like talking to someone who actually uses the product. One small suggestion: on long downloads, it's worth adding your own timeout and retry in the code. It took me a couple of nights to learn that the hard way! Very happy with it. I'd recommend ThetaData to anyone serious about options research.

ThetaData’s options data is deep, reliable and easy to work with. What really stands out is their customer service. I have used a few different Historical Data service providers for Options backtesting specifically, however it was not until I made the switch over to ThetaData when I really started seeing reliable backtest, ML training, and Strategy Configuration Optimization results. Instead of paying over $220/month on spotty and patchy data, do yourself a favor and get the complete dataset. Your system will thank you. I have never made so much progress in my research until now. I do not think there is a single service out there that has such clean and complete (and granular) data for the price - not to mention the incredible customer service. Big thanks and shoutout to Mr. AJ Mueller for letting me know about special promotions as well. As a self-taught developer of an automated trading system, I cannot stress enough how much I recommend ThetaData, and how much I wish that I would have found them sooner. You really CANNOT beat the quality of data, or their reasonable prices.

I used the service for one month to obtain historical option data for selected underlyings and times. ClaudeCode easily wrote the interface program and it all went without a hitch. Good value and good/clean data - and its the clean data part that is even more important.

Outstanding technical support from Eduardo I reached out to ThetaData support with a fairly deep question involving historical options trade/quote data, timestamp ordering, and causal as-of reconstruction. Eduardo went far beyond a typical support response. He reproduced the cases I sent, dug into the underlying behavior, ran additional tests of his own, and clearly explained what could and could not be inferred from the data. As the investigation progressed, he continued helping us work through increasingly subtle questions around report order, same-millisecond quote states, the historical tick endpoints, and the `at_time` behavior. He even tested repeated requests, wider windows, and ambiguous quote timestamps himself rather than speculating. What impressed me most was that he was very precise about the limits of the data. When there was no defensible ordering within a millisecond, he said so directly instead of inventing an explanation or giving us a workaround that could silently introduce bad assumptions. His responses materially changed how we designed our data pipeline and probably saved us from building research on top of incorrect timestamp semantics. Extremely knowledgeable, responsive, and technically rigorous support. Eduardo was excellent throughout the entire exchange.
