Why I Gave A Rating of 5
I severely injured my left foot and ankle 37 years ago. That incident left me without an arch on that foot. I didn't do physical therapy after the injury and continued to pursue my training in martial arts. I'll be 69 years old come September, and about 2 years ago I could hardly walk without experiencing constant pain in my foot. My podiatrist informed me I had scar tissue that had hardened around my ankle, a callous had formed where my arch had been that was rubbing on the bone that had supported my arch, and that was causing the pain. He recommended surgery to remove the callous. The surgery did alleviate the pain in my foot, but after a year of physical therapy I had little plantar or dorsal flexion in my foot, and pain if I even leaned laterally on that foot. I purchased Kelly's book a couple of months ago and was impressed by his approach to mobility. I decided to try the basic kit. After doing the couch stretch as a part of my daily maintenance the first few days I was elated to see a significant improvement in both the plantar and dorsal flexion of my foot, less pain in my ankle when I lean side to side. I can't perform the exercise in it's entirety yet, I can't lift the leg not on the wall into the 2nd position, I have to stay in the 1st position - for now. But just to be able to regain some ability to have plantar and dorsal flexion in that foot, and be able to bear more weight on that foot, as well as have a greater range of lateral movement for me is a blessing and very comforting sign of hope that by continuing my daily regimen I'll realize improvements I didn't think was possible.
