I’m healing
20 years ago today, at the age of 48, I was in a motor vehicle accident that greatly changed my daily life from one of living life fully and actively to one of daily chronic pain for over 17 years and a greatly reduced level of activity. My mindset greatly changed from living to getting through the day. I learned how to manage my symptoms but greatly missed the freedom to live life more fully. More than 8 years ago I had the sudden onset of acute pancreatitis that again changed my daily life for a few years. A little over 21 months ago I learned the uncommon and unknown finding in my neck meant the need to go through a 16 month medical journey. When that medical journey ended less that 5 months ago I thought I would be well, but I quickly learned as the new year was beginning I was quite unwell and the help I needed and wanted far exceeded my capabilities. This is where the emotions of gratitude start with tears in my eyes as I type this. I came across The Health Institute and the story of Josh’s mom resonated with me as I wanted my life back. Four months into my time with my practitioner, whose first name is also Josh, I no longer have the mindset of just getting through another day. I know I am healing and I also know I have months to go to continue the early journey of healing. A lot of systems in my human body needed to have inflammation reduced and receive nutrients to start healing and balancing in a way that helps my human body function better. This program has nourished my spirit, soul and body even in the midst of a really challenging northern Michigan winter. I have been working on regaining my circadian rhythm as part of my regaining my sleep cycle that greatly changed in the 16 month medical journey. I have learned and appreciate balancing meals with healthy fats and protein and that I wasn’t getting enough healthy fats and protein prior to this year. My meals which include fruits and vegetables and grains/carbs have created a nutrient dense way of eating and changed the lens of how I see my daily life. The mindset principles taught and encouraged are increasing my inner strength as I continue. A month ago my spouse shared with me when asked what strengths does your spouse have that you need: he responded my focus on my getting better and acknowledged my improvement to think, move, and have more energy. I have participated in this program to the level which I am able and will always be grateful for the community offered to me at just the right time in my life.
