Re: Tablo Gen4 — The set up was smooth at first. They said it works with Roku which I have. It does NOT and the customer “service” woman cut me off as I was explaining to tell me Roku’s latest OS is incompatible. I tried it with my Chromecast to no avail. Another Customer service rep. told me my Chromecast was too old. My Roku is too new and my Chromecast is too old! 😠 She told me to buy an Onn streaming stick from Walmart. It has trouble opening the app and lacks the replay control I bought the Tablo for. The interface is awkward and annoying to use, when it works. Tablo gen 4 is a good idea that isn’t ready for prime time. Update 3 days later: I got the unit working (I thought) by leaving it disconnected overnight. The app even launched in a reasonable amount of time without the spinning wheel of progress. It worked smoothly until I wanted to go to the on screen channel guide. I found no way of bringing it up. I called Tablo support again for help. The woman kept telling me to select options not available. She then told me they weren’t really trained on that. Wow! 🤯 A buggy product with untrained tech support. They said I can send it back at my cost. I shouldn’t have to pay shipping to return a product that has never worked correctly. It also randomly displays an “unknown error” message over the show.

I started with 5 stars until the glitches came: I just set up Tablo TV and it works exactly as it should. I followed the easy directions, connecting it directly to my router. I use Roku on my TVs so I read about how to use the Tablo app with Roku, That was easy and it works great. I set it up on one TV and all of the others now have the Tablo app installed. I have recorded a couple of live TV shows and played them back on my phone using the Tablo app, and on two different TV sets. The recorded shows look crisp and clear just like they would on Netflix or other apps. I scheduled a few recordings and have viewed one. The Tablo TV did exactly what I wanted it to do. I'll do another review if I hit glitches. So far I am very impressed with the ease of setting it up, viewing live channels, recording episodes, and viewing them at a later date using the Roku app and remote to skip commercials. All of the above until it didn't. I have a TCL Roku TV and an older than 2019 Samsung TV with a Roku device attached. Neither of them is working with the Tablo as it should. I have been in contact with them and they are saying that there is a conflict with an update. Tablo has different issues depending upon the type of Roku that you are using. So, sadly I'll return the Tablo. When I record something and can't play it back, or FF through commercials it is to frustrating to try a bunch of fixes that really don't work. I suggest that before you get one of these you read about some of the glitches. I really wanted this to work.

I had an original Tablo model for the last several months. I had routine problems several times that could be blamed on the internet/wifi connection if you believe what they claim on their site. I chose not to call in and rectify most issues without help. Last week I had my Internet upgraded from 500meg to 1 Gig since we use it a lot. I also purchased NEW 4th generation Tablo and an Ethernet cable to connect it to my router directly instead of WiFi. In other words I did everything I could to have quality service and the latest equipment in my home. I installed the new Tablo with the direct Ethernet cable to my 1 GIG router. I set it up per their instructions on Saturday. I ran most features with ease until I tried to set up recordings of some shows we watch from our rooftop antenna all the time, and have recorded on the original system we had. We tried for several hours on Saturday and on Sunday but every time we picked the shows from the guide, selected them, and hit record it ave a message that this operation was not available??? That is when I called Customer Service at Tablo and reached “Arya” in C/S. We followed her responses as best we could for 2 reasons, she had a strong foreign accent, and talked very rapidly! I asked her to slow down at least twice and explained I could not understand her. This was when I put my wife on the phone also to try and understand her. My wife could not understand half of her words either. She tried different things and the system still would not take recordings. At that point she stopped helping abruptly and said she was sending me an email with instructions?? I asked if she was staying on the line to assist me if here instructions did not work and she said NO - just follow the instructions! I was very surprised and told her I spent $140 on the new system and I thought they owed me help. She replied to just follow the email and to call again if it did not work. Upon reading the email I saw it stated the same things we had already tried. It added to rescan the channels a THIRD time and to reboot the system that might take 20-30 minutes??? I left the call very angry at the way I was treated! If Arya is an example of their customer service then they have NONE! I would never talk to her again if I was forced to call in. POOR customer service, and a fair product at best! Hire better people who speak good clear English and don’t talk like an auctioneer selling something!! G. Furguson. Flower Mound, Tx
