My son attended the 3 week summer program at UCLA.
My son attended the 3 week summer business program at UCLA. He met a bunch of friends and had a great experience. He’s a senior in high school now and looking forward to being in the dorms next year. He loved the total experience from day trips to hanging on campus to hearing to guest speakers. Having him fly to California by himself, meet the group and fellow students, meet his roommate and find his way around campus was an invaluable lesson.

Disappointed with the experience
This was our second experience with Summer Discovery, and communication was a recurring weak point. The prerequisites for the class my daughter took weren't listed in the course description and she didn't find out about them until two weeks before the program started. As a result, most of the tangible outcomes that were listed on the website were not achievable. Communication about day-to-day activities was also lacking. During the two-week session, we received virtually no updates. This echoed our previous experience the summer our son attended, when we got a few brief updates in the first days but nothing after that. Overall, we were very disappointed with the quality of the program, especially given the high price point. We expected a level of organization and communication that matched the cost, and this experience fell short on both.

We were told that our student would receive a written evaluation from the professor as well as a certificate of completion. We have not received those.
Response from Summer DiscoveryAug 14, 2026
We want to assure you that certificates and letters of completion are actively being uploaded to student accounts today! You and your student should see them available in the portal very shortly. We truly appreciate your patience, and thank you again for being part of our program this summer!

UBC Summer Discovery
The staff were great and knowledgeable. I leanred a lot of basic finanice and business from them. It made me want to go into finance even more. I also learned a lot about application process and the requirments, which will help me a lot in application period. The overall experience of the campus and classes were memorable.

Summer Discovery is too strict
Actual program (Penn Law) was fun and I learned a ton but summer discovery rules were overbearing and way too strict, and were not helpful when trying to work with them. They give you about as much freedom as a 10 year old, and you must always travel in groups of three anywhere you go.

Very good! Recommend!
The main staff were so amazing, though some others were unpleasant. I went on a three day hike, teaching me a lot about the camp I was doing!
