Steve Taylor RD program review
I first met Steve when he was about 5 years old. He was in my son’s kindergarten class. As the years progressed into high school, Steve would show up at my house to hang with the guys and bring his own food. He had already begun to develop his love for lifting and nutrition and he saw the benefits of his labor in his sports. I went to visit my son during his time in the Air Force and he told me he was doing a program that Steven had created for him. In 2024 when I decided to retire from nursing, Curtis said, “Mom you need to do Steve’s program!” I had been an athlete in high school and college as a volleyball player, post college I continued to play volleyball and ventured out into 1/2 marathons and Sprint Triathlons. I also had a personal trainer for a while and lifted for about a year. I don’t know why but I just didn’t get the obsession at that point. As a mom and wife, I put everyone before myself which is why I made the decision to join Steve’s program as part of my retirement gift to myself. I was putting myself first. From 2019-2024, I watched both my parents decline in health and mobility. Both died as a result of a fall. I was and am determined to not have my kids go through watching this. So here I am at 62 years old March 2024 getting started on my own journey. Goal: Build Strength, Endurance and increase Mobility. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekly zoom meetings with Steve. Who knew that you could train virtually with someone in this manner. It works. Our meetings had several goals for the 1 hour session. It could be food related reviewing pictures of prepared meals I had eaten, reviewing My Fitness Pal(MFP) log or my workout log along with videos I had taken of designated exercises. I bet within every session Steve had to tell me to “TRUST THE PROCESS!” I can still hear him saying that. I had back issues that needed to be worked through and we sorted out how to change the exercise but still achieve the same outcome. After every meeting, I had goals for the week that we created together. For me this was key. I needed a plan to be able to walk into the gym with confidence and know exactly what I needed to accomplish. It takes time to put the weight on and it takes time and consistency to take the weight off. I’ve had several positive experiences as a result of my weightlifting. About a year into my journey, I had some random dude at Walmart walk up to me say, “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it because you look great!” This just came out of the blue. I was still seeing the rolls and fat in the mirror but this person saw something else. I had middle aged over weight lady ask me a question about the lying leg press. She had her paper log with her weight and we reviewed what she was doing. This gave me an opportunity to tell her about progressive overload. Another gentleman(now a good gym friend) finally asked me about my form. He said, “I watch you and you put so much effort into your form. How long have you been lifting?” At that point it was about 1 year. Form is discussed without exception at every meeting while analyzing the lift. Lastly, 2 different people commented on my plank pushups. I’ve worked so hard perfecting those pushups. This was so encouraging for me. Now I’m working on my pull-ups. I get in the zone at the gym and I don’t really notice that people are watching me! I want to be the person that provides encouragement and motivation to others. I want to be approachable. Weightlifting and logging in MFP is now part of my DNA. I’ve built habits that I can carry with me for the rest of my life. I’m building strength and endurance to get me down the road into my elder years. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. Steve knows how to push his clients to achieve success. I highly recommend his program and glad I now have him as a resource and as a friend.
