I operate the 501c3 non profit Ride Safe. Because sterling check makes no effort to actually verify any of their background checks or include the fingerprint database or criminal records from several us states and other countrys in their process, i am forced to deal with an epidemic of sexual assaults, uninsured wrecks and crime that lyft drivers who were approved by sterling check commit almost daily. Since lyft refuses to explain itself, i wonder if sterling check would like to explain how a man with two duis and an assault record ends up as a lyft driver to then rape a 17 year old girl?! That being just ONE instance of the hundreds annually. Taxi drivers dont even commit 1/20th the ammount of assaults as drivers approved by sterling check.

I just went through the same madness that everyone else has. I have been clean and sober for 13 years and my drug test came back positive for marijuana. They had that the collection site was in Pennsylvania and the test was done in Utah. When questioned about it they told me for $200.00 they would re-test it. WHAT A SCAM. I'm sure they screwed me out of a great opportunity and will be consulting an attorney on this criminal company. SPREAD THE WORD WHEREVER YOU CAN!!!

Even after providing them with all information needed they are too lazy or incompetent to do any work to check references. Their lazy solutions is to ask for W2 form. After providing all the detail on how to contact previous employers including phone numbers, emails, company websites. They are still not able to figure out what to do. Many emails and back and forth. Totally a worthless company. I have no idea how they are in business.

The platform took me half a day to only reach 50% of information gathering. Super slow and not intuitive. There are so many error as well.

I have deliberately made an account here just to write this. Its important for you all to know just how dangerous and damaging this firm is. As you know this company does background checks for firms after you got the offer. I got a great offer and the company that gave me that offer was supposedly very good. So when I found out I lost that offer because of the background check I was in utter dismay. Confused and angry, I didn't know what happened. I'm a clean person who has done everything by the rules and yet I was screwed hard by this firm. I was wondering how was it possible? I have never failed a background check and I provided all the information they asked for. Now after searching to sooth my rage, I have found out this is the reason why. Where do I start? I knew something was up when the background check process felt completely different from the processes of my offer company. The offer company process was friendly, smooth and efficient. In contrast this process was nasty, slow and inefficient. Lets see: 1.They took over 1 month just to process the information (compared to other times that took 1 week) 2.They asked for PERSONAL references of every single job (including one that lasted a month and was over 7 years ago) 3.They ask for your employment letter, promotion letter, a gorillion pay stubs etc. I bet even the most detailed person won't have all the stuff they ask for 4.They asked for a crap load of other information that could be considered a violation of your privacy You know in a lot of places, they don't even allow personal references because that is open to lawsuits, Instead they give a end of confirmation letter + HR contact to confirm you worked there. But noooo to these guys, that's not enough. You have to give them more documents than you would need to give the tax guys from 10 years back. So I hope you are prepared! In end I didn't want to lose the job offer so I gave them everything. I went out of my way to contact old colleagues to give me a reference. I went out to HR departments to get the documents. You know what happened? In the end they somehow still failed to contact a lot of my references (some of em told me they were never contacted). Somehow they managed to find discrepancies even though I gave them the documents that flat out state my job and timeframe to reconcile any differences. SOMEHOW THEY FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY EVEN THOUGH I GAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING BLACK AND WHITE AND EVEN CONFIRMED BY MY EX COLLEAGUES. I wonder how my references are gonna feel now that I essentially wasted their time thanks to these guys. The embarrassment is going to kill us all And as a result like many of the people here, I lost my job offer. I always wondered how could my offer firm mess up that badly. Now I realize these guys are responsible. To any firm still using these guys, please stop before you lose anymore good employees. One day these guys will step on enough people's toes and they will face a lawsuit so big that this time they will not get away with it. And hopefully the firm will become bankrupt and the people responsible will go to jail. And also hopefully we will be compensated for the damages these guys have done to our lives. Edit: An update. So after disputing they already outright admitted they made several key mistakes as if it was nothing. Wow thanks guys. Its not like messing up like this has huge consequences or anything right? These guys seriously need to be put down I swear.

Worst worst worst company ever!!! This company just ruined my life. They didn’t call the number provide for reference which ends up my previous manager gave me bad comment and the bank that provided conditional offer was cancelled their offer!!! Are you guys happy with ruining someone’s life and destoyed their dream jobs?!!!!

I have had a lousy experience with Sterling. Every single thing couldn’t be verified. My employment, my diploma. Then when they were verified after my due diligence. I was STILL being contacted by someone else from Sterling that it wasn’t. I was incredibly frustrated. Horrible customer service and company.

These people have no clue how to do their job. They don't do any research or lookup companies when they move etc.. They email you with requests that they can do and find.? What kind of investigation of background company is this. Humana uses them for background check. Like others who have commented they ask for W2's which idk if it's legal in my state, and the lady who called was from India. If you are taking on the phone, don't hire someone who can't speak English and 99 % of people have no clue what they are saying..?
