STEAR CLEAR!!!! The most hideous and unprofessional on-boarding experience I have ever experienced (I am 48 yo). They are patronising in their emails, faceless and ultimately pointless since if they do not receive employment references from previous employers almost immediately then they ask you as the candidate to get them yourself and then send them to Sterling so that Sterling can falsely claim them as their work and bill the client for successful on-board (ie they are being paid for a service which they do not fulfil). AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. ZERO STARS

After reading all these other reviews, this company needs to be shut down. My employer requires background checks to be conducted on an annual basis, and I have had several done over the years so I know this is NOT normal. I have been suspended from work because my background check was apparently rejected. I contacted Sterling to request a copy, they refused to send me one, claiming they’re protecting my personal information. I contacted them by phone, informed the rep that I have the right to see my check and dispute any information I feel is inaccurate, and they told me that I had to go to my local police department, get a background check completed, and email it to them so they can forward it to my employer. Let’s just go over that last part again.. They want me to pay $40 to conduct my own criminal background check, send it via email (which they said wasn’t secure and that’s why they won’t send me a copy), at which point they will then forward it on to my employer as their own work. So not only are they getting paid to do literally one job, and then not do it at all, but they’re forcing clients to do that same work on their own dime so they can pass it off as a job well done. I’ve disputed this with my head office so hopefully I can get this sorted out soon and return to work. Btw no, I’m not receiving any income right now.

I hate that it makes you choose at least 1 star because they don't deserve any. The sheer and utter incompetence of this company is staggering. Ive lived in the same state, clean and simple record, never in my 20 something yrs of employment have I EVER had so many issues obtaining and verifying simple information. I've given them the information NUMEROUS times and they still can't seem to grasp the basic concept of their jobs. These people are the absolute WORST at what theyve been hired to do. They have my name, SSN, DOB, name and location where I went to school and they STILL had to call me to ask me what year I graduated. THAT'S YOUR JOB. PLEASE DO THE JOB YOU WERE HIRED FOR. OR GET OUT AND FLIP A BURGER.

Worst company ever!

Bad company used by only cheap and bad employeers. I can tell you right now if you are offered a position and asked to do background with sterling. Please save yourself time and reject the offer

watch out for these guys, worst company for background checks, lost information, delays over and over, no results (we are in process of conducting...) have stone age web front end, send suspicious emails from anonymous accounts and don't respond to your own emails ... avoid at all cost!

Unfortunately, there isn't a 0 star rating available. Sterling lost all my information on the first round, then stopped replying in my requests for help (it took a month to complete). Second time around, as I reviewed the information that I entered, values were changed to what I had selected and it sent me into a loop around the form completion wizard. Surely accuracy of data entry should be paramount given the nature of how the data is to be used?! AVOID AVOID AVOID

I’ve been in the process around 3 months now, I moved to a new city for this job offer and I haven’t been able to step a foot into the office because the incompetence of this company. They have been sitting four week now in a document that government officials provided with the excuse that they need to verify that the document is legit. 4 WEEKS to verify a single piece of paper!!!! Every time I call I get the same answer that they have not been able to locate a third party to validate the document, ridiculous. They don’t have sense of urgency and they don’t care about the effect that it has on the individual. To all hiring managers, please don’t use Sterling as your provider, you will definitely loose a lot of good candidates by their incompetence.
