Had this company call for information about an old employee. Very confusing and hard to understand the agents on the phone. They also called back several times to ask the same question so it seemed scammy so I hesitated to give too much information about our ex employee. The agent's accent was very very hard to understand as well which made it hard to answer the questions.

I have been working in staffing for 5 years and have verified at least 50% of candidates MYSELF because Sterling is not able to do so. How does a company advertise this service and collect payment for such an atrocious record? It's not even my job to do so but unfortunately it's necessary and extremely time consuming, because they seem unable to do theirs. Collecting money to do nothing.

Serious waste of time. Asked very thorough question which was good. I was happy to answer all and even supply all documents requested even though they wasn't that easy to get hold off. After all that they refused my account asking me to check my credit score (Which is outstanding) or applied i might be investigated by a fraud unit(which i am not!).

They are completely clueless in all aspects of what they do. I completed their ridiculously extensive paperwork in as much detail as possible. They then return to me 1 week later asking me to give consent to my old employer for a reference, and to my university. That's fair enough. I do it straight away and within a day i have got responses from both my employer and univeristy confirming all information needed. They then proceed to ask me my exact whereabouts in August 2017 which i stated i had finished uni and was living with my parents for a month before starting my new job. They demanded paperwork to prove that i was living with my parents, i had to explain multiple times that my parents never got me to sign formal documentation to prove i was staying at home but they just wouldnt have it. Absolutely incredible. Then two weeks later, 1 day before i'm due to start my new HR department contact me asking why i havent filled out the paperwork for my employeer and University reference (which i did 2 weeks prior). I proved to my new employer than i've done everything i possibly could and it's just the complete incompetence of Sterling to do even basic tasks that is holding this process up. In summary Sterling are absolute incompetent cowboys, god knows how much they get paid to be so useless. EDIT: it says they tried to contact me, i can ensure you that they havent, not via email, post, phone etc.

My employer did my background check through Sterling and it was a terrible experience. By the end of it all I was ready/willing to just pay for my own background check through another company, if that had been allowed. I had to submit my military documents 4 times because they kept saying they hadn’t received it. I had to provide employment and gap history multiple times as well. One day they would call to get gap information (that I had already provided), then the next day they would call for employment dates (which, again, I had already provided). And then they’d call for more employment information, which, yet AGAIN, had already been provided more than once. I don’t know how they are so unorganized but it should not take over a month to get my background check cleared.

This company literally spoilt my career. Their background checks are incomplete and they don't provide the right information about the people they check. Useless. absolutely useless.

The company was, for some reason, unable to match my name to my SSN. I followed the guidelines, put the dashes, made sure everything was correct, and was still denied from the check 4 times in a row until I was locked out of my account for which I needed verification. Now I need to do a bunch of extra steps, such as faxing a picture of my SS card and calling customer service to get my account back, in order to fix the mistake Sterling made. I am extremely disappointed and underwhelmed with this experience. I have never in my life had an issue with my SSN until now. I would not recommend this company to anyone at all in the future.

Ever since they got my info through a work related background check and I’m getting fraudulent calls from east India. They representing themselves as Canada revenue agency. With an east Andian accent. They may be able to fool other people that’s the thing!!! Next they will sell us to the Chinese for a buck!! I would recommend the RCMP to get involved in this company.
