Dysfunctional, dishonest, incompetent and arrogant
Sterling was used by my new employer to perform an employment background check. I will not delve into the fact that their website itself is pretty confusing (e.g. during the application, it announces that the process is complete just before starting a new section). Most importantly, far worse was their behaviour. It started off with asking a document (which, incidentally, my new employer was not interested in). After I uploaded the exact required document, I was told that such document was “unsuitable”. Next thing, they sent the employment reference request to the wrong email address (an email address they completely invented, instead of using the correct one I had given them). When I discovered their error, they first pretended I had given them the wrong email. They then promised to send the request to the correct email address. Except, they never did, because they concluded their background check by writing that they had been unable to complete my employment verification as no response had been received (from my current employer). Well, what do you expect when you send your request to the wrong email address. When I made a complaint, they refused to correct their mistake and instead referred me to my (new) employer. Therefore, instead of lasting “three to five business days” (as they boast on their website), the process took more than 5 weeks (with no employment check ever performed during that period). I would not be surprised if they took their hypocrisy even further by replying to this review “Hello. Please contact xxx directly for support” (which is exactly what I did when I made my complaint, which they dutifully turned down). Long story short: if you envisage using this company for background checks (or for anything else, for that matter) – stay away. You have been warned.
