They were bought out by first advantage, so like always, they went down hill. Started off so strong with direct numbers you could call and contact for help. Then they were bought out, and now you need to call a generic number, where half of the time the call fails if you click the 'wrong' button. When you get in line, you wait 30+ minutes for no solutions. The drug tests and background checks take weeks to come back, and will fail if they don't have the 'special form' needed but they don't tell you which form you need. All around horrible customer service.
Sincerely,
a member of an HR team that deeply regrets picking this company as our background check/drug testing provider.

Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service , they don’t give accurate results and have a bunch of conditions. When there is an issue with some type of information that you sent them ,their response is the background check was completed and we can’t get refund. But I never got my background check ! They say that’s the way their company works. They just want your money. Go with another company.

Lost data. Time wasters.
After hours and hours of forms they turn around and lose them.
So much for sensitive data.
I now have to redo everything months later. Jokers.

Unprofessional charlatans
I am having to deal with awful organisation through my employer. Sterling are utter wide boy charlatans. Awful to deal with, but worst of all, there is not stated help desk telephone on their portal and they reject emails sent to their dedicated help address. Like I said, unprofessional charlatans

So Poor, When getting the forms filled out for my ID verification the form that was being filled out stated that it could be sent via post which was the option i opted for as I couldn't upload my ID on the site as the files were too large (I'm not a tech genius) This means Copies of my ID were sent next day delivery signed for by 1pm (£8.00) to Sterling along with stamped verification and signatures from the correct individual needed in this case a post office official (£13.00) There was no acknowledgement of receipt of the documents sent and they now insist they the documents must be sent by email and I was asked if the documents can be sent via email. Now there was no mention of documents needing to be sent via email hence the option to post. i have explained numerous times that i have sent them by post so how can i email them across. They are asking for a tracking number 2 weeks after i sent them next day delivery signed for. which means a) they have lost my documents with a lot of sensitive information on or b) Are trying to make this as difficult as possible and not just matching up the documents sent to my online screening. They are now expecting me to spend £13.00 again and go to a post office to get the same official to sign it again because of there own incompetence. Up till now it has been 2 weeks with me being now closer to completion then the day i made a username and password

I uploaded my documents and mistakenly…
I uploaded my documents and mistakenly forgot to upload my selfie, after i realised that i had forgotten to upload my selfie,i tried to go back so that i would upload my selfie but the system wouldn't allow me.I called sterling and explained my problem, their representative told me that they unable to process my right to work because the share code i provided seemed to be incorrect, but i know for certain that i provided them with the correct share code. So,they advised me to contact my prospective employer and ask them to send you the link again. When i contacted my prospective employer,i was told that it's the third part handling that. Now,i am confused as to who to contact and i might also loose the chance to secure employment. Why do you make the process so difficult? You should let it possible for people to go back to the previous page and make amendments if they have to do so.

Awful Company
Awful Company. Unhelpful and slow responses by people who are clearly copying and pasting and not enagaging with a reply. They keep coming back for more and more information when they should just ask for everything upfront. Already 3 weeks into the process and not finished yet. Avoid this unprofessional company at all costs.

Shockingly Unprofessional Professional Service
I've received two reference check requests through this company in the past year or two and find their lack of technical competence and professionalism appalling given the service they purport to provide. Both checks were for senior, seasoned professionals and I like to think that my C.V. says the same of me.
I won't dwell on the perfunctory, superficial nature of the questions - most of which are more befitting a grade school report card than a significant employment decision - or the fact that Sterling's poorly designed web form demands long-form answers in addition to a radio button select on such probing questions as "Were there any issues with this person's attendance or punctuality". Personally, I think this nonsense reflects just as poorly on the people who hire Sterling Backcheck. I can only assume that they do so out of some policy requirement to demonstrate independent due diligence - no matter how lame and ineffective - at minimal cost.
My beef with Sterling today was that, 5 hours after I took the time to submit the sort carefully considered and nuanced responses that I would want to receive were I the hiring manager, I received an email informing me that, due to some unexplained technical issue, they could not read my responses. I know that the system received content because, as noted, it complained about empty text in the fields where I felt the radio button response was sufficient. The email repeated the same questions (without the apparently superfluous radio buttons) in text and asked me to reply with my answers.
I tried calling the individual whose name appeared on the email at the Langley, British Columbia phone number provided. The number provided was, of course, a general switchboard number and the person I eventually reached through the call tree demonstrated neither the ability nor the interest in connecting me with the individual whose name appeared on the email. If this isn't offside of the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation rules, it is strikes me as offside of the spirit.
I will, out of professional courtesy and personal respect for my former colleague, waste more time writing thoughtful answers to Sterling's uninspiring questions and will send back the completed email. I doubt anyone will take the time to insert them into whatever database they tell their clients they maintain.
I take only a small degree of solace in the certain knowledge that, if the slacker who sent me the email isn't a bot, s/he will soon be replaced by one. This is a (dis)service that benefits absolutely no one.
