Premium price, bargain-bin hardware, and a completely worthless "warranty." StarTech charges top-tier enterprise money on the promise of commercial-grade reliability and a heavily advertised "3-year warranty." In reality, you get hardware that bricks itself into a boot loop and a support department engineered entirely around dodging RMAs. My £300+ Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 dock (132UE-TB4USB4DOCK) died with an internal power fault. Even after completing full hardware isolation testing against a second identical working dock and proving beyond doubt that the board logic was fried, dealing with their customer support was an absolute farce. First-line support does nothing but read flowcharts. The second it became clear the hardware was genuinely defective, the agent immediately scrambled for an exit, fobbing me off with a scripted "not our problem, go ask eBay" response—on an item well past a standard 30-day merchant return window. When you point out that StarTech's own official public website FAQ explicitly states: "Units purchased through resellers and still within the warranty can only be replaced by StarTech.com", they simply stop replying and ghost the ticket (Case #CAS-254994). They market themselves to IT professionals, but their customer service operates like a fly-by-night operation. If you want hardware with a warranty that actually follows the silicon and is honoured without childish evasion, buy from Dell, Lenovo, or CalDigit. Avoid StarTech at all costs—total waste of money and zero post-sale backing.
