A profoundly disappointing and thoroughly unprofessional experience. The firm appeared far more concerned with extracting ever-increasing fees than with providing considered, client-focused legal advice. Little empathy, little discretion, and seemingly little regard beyond the next bill. I would not recommend to anyone for any legal matter whatsoever.

Spencer West for business sale
I hired Spencer West Law Firm to handle the sale of my virtual assistance agency, and my experience was extremely disappointing. I would strongly advise against using them for this type of transaction. The solicitor assigned to my case, Karim, appeared to have little or no experience with this type of deal. He failed to recognise essential documents, including the statutory register and stock transfer form, repeatedly lost or failed to retain documents we had provided, and regularly asked us to resend them. His lack of competence resulted in an approximately six-month delay. He also seriously underestimated the scope of work. I was initially told that the transaction was covered by the agreed fee. Despite this, he later issued several unexpected additional invoices and told me he would stop responding to my emails unless I paid the additional fees, even though the work was, in my understanding, already included in the original agreed scope. His communication was also rude and unprofessional. I escalated the matter to Spencer West, and Jon promised to investigate and address the issues, but then failed to follow up or contact me again. Overall, hiring Spencer West cost me significant time, money, and unnecessary stress. I expected professional legal guidance; instead, I experienced delays, poor communication, unexpected fees, and a lack of basic understanding of the transaction. I would not recommend Spencer West for anyone selling a business.

Bad Experience
I engaged Spencer West LLP (partner: Jeremy Berg) in August 2025 on a very limited scope mandate: review my employer’s settlement agreement and draft/send one without-prejudice letter setting out required changes.
My instructions were crystal clear in multiple emails:
* Email-only communication (no calls).
* Strict capped budget.
* Deliverable: draft letter to employer for my review.
Despite this, the service I received was shocking:
* No draft letter was ever produced (the central deliverable).
* Time was instead spent on repeated unwanted phone calls, arguments about billing, and discussions irrelevant to my case.
* My communication preferences were ignored, and at one point the solicitor relayed that my employer found me “difficult” – and said he agreed.
* I was billed for time spent on calls and fee discussions rather than the work instructed.
In short, my mandate was not complied with. I paid over £1,000, yet the instructed work was never delivered. When I raised a complaint, the firm closed ranks and rejected it in full.
I am now escalating to the Legal Ombudsman.
I cannot recommend this firm based on my experience.
