Do not trust their rewards. Second fast food resturaunts buying food online to collect points. Once you get enough points to use them they cancel your order and take your points. Just used 750 points to be told they canceled my order. Had to force them to refund the rest of the order. Asked about the rewards and was told the manager said they don't know anything about the rewards. Don't waste your time with any place telling you that points matter because they will cancel then order and take your points. Sounds like Sonic is on my do not eat lists.

How many of you that frequent Sonic…
How many of you that frequent Sonic Drive Inns, have ordered a Cherry “Lime-aide,” and found out later, there were no limes in your Cherry “Lime-aide?” Come on!!! I know you’re out there! I can’t be the only one! It doesn’t matter which location you’ve gone to, you’ve experienced “no limes” in your Cherry “Lime-aide”!!! And, you’ve tipped the car-hop for doing it!!!
Question to the Sonic Drive Inns:
The next time I order your “Cherry Lime-aide,” do I have to open it in my car, to inspect the drink, to see if limes are in my “Lime-aide?” Is that what I need to do to make sure I received what I ordered? Not Good For Business!!!

Charged for a sauce the SONIC app…
Charged for a sauce the SONIC app includes at no additional cost
I am writing this review because of an inconsistent pricing practice and the response from both store management and SONIC Customer Service, not because of the 54 cents involved.
On September 7, 2026, I placed an Order Ahead order through the SONIC app at Store #4273 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. My order included a medium 6-piece mozzarella sticks for $4.99. I inadvertently did not select marinara when submitting the order.
When I picked up my food and requested marinara, I was told I had to pay for it because I had not selected it in the app. I was required to make a separate transaction and was charged $0.54 for two marinara packets.
I immediately went back into the SONIC app, selected the same location and exact same mozzarella sticks, and confirmed that the app allows me to add three marinara packets without increasing the $4.99 item price. I have screenshots showing this, as well as both receipts.
I completely understand charging for extra sauces beyond what is included with an item. If I order chicken tenders or popcorn chicken, receive the included dipping sauces, and then ask for additional sauces, charging for the extras is reasonable. That is not what happened here. I was charged for sauce that would have been provided at no additional cost had I simply selected it before pressing the order button.
When I questioned the discrepancy, the store manager told me the SONIC app is “third party.” That did not answer the question. The restaurant accepts orders and payments through SONIC’s branded app, fulfills those orders, and the app displays the menu options and pricing specifically for that location.
I also asked whether customers are charged individually for ketchup or mustard packets if they request them after ordering. I was trying to determine whether this was a consistent condiment policy. My question was not answered.
I then contacted SONIC Customer Service and spent approximately an hour on the phone. The representative agreed with my concern, but the only resolution available was points toward a future SONIC purchase.
That completely missed the point. I wasn’t looking for free food, points, or compensation. I wanted someone to explain why something shown as included at no additional charge through SONIC’s ordering platform suddenly carries an additional charge when requested at pickup.
The way this was handled also creates a legitimate pricing concern. If I select the sauce in the app, there is no additional charge. If I don’t want the sauce, SONIC doesn’t provide it. But if I do want the sauce and simply forget to select it before submitting the order, I am then charged separately for something that otherwise would have been included at no additional cost.
If that is SONIC’s policy, it should be clearly disclosed to customers in the app. If it isn’t SONIC’s policy, the location’s practice should be corrected.
After spending approximately an hour with Customer Service over something that should have taken minutes to resolve, I am disappointed that SONIC could offer points but apparently could not provide a clear answer about its own pricing policy.
I would be cautious about returning after this experience. Not because of 54 cents, but because if something this minor is this difficult to resolve, I have little confidence in how a more significant pricing or order problem would be handled.
