Early stress symptoms do not necessarily indicate plant failure. Thank you for your feedback Robert. We’re sorry to hear this didn’t meet your expectations. The Texas Mountain Laurel you received is a 5 gallon plant, which is still in an early stage of growth. At this size, it’s completely normal for it to have a thinner trunk and a more shrub-like appearance. This variety naturally takes time in the ground to develop into the thicker, more tree-like form many people expect. We did follow up directly via email to provide more context around sizing and growth expectations, and to help clarify what’s typical for this stage of the plant. We work to set clear expectations on our product pages by including customer submitted photos that show how these plants look at this stage. In many cases, the plant received is actually larger than what’s typical for a 5 gallon Texas Mountain Laurel. While we understand this may not have aligned with what you had in mind, the plant delivered is true to the size and quality advertised. We take all customer feedback seriously and use it to continue improving how we communicate sizing, expectations, and the overall experience for future customers.

We want to clarify that our Better Boxwood Skylight shrubs are sourced from a trusted grower within the Better Boxwood network. They arrive to us in branded Better Boxwood containers and with official tags identifying the variety. We do not relabel or retag these plants ourselves. If a plant were ever mislabeled or incorrect upon arrival, we would absolutely make that right. However, in most cases, differences in appearance are due to pruning, shaping, or growth stage. Growers such as Better Boxwood and retailers like Home Depot may trim and shape their plants before sale, which can result in a more uniform or structured look compared to plants that have not yet been shaped. We’d be more than happy to review photos of what you received and help confirm the variety. If there was any error on our end, we will absolutely take care of it.

Trees may occasionally have structural pruning performed during normal grower/nursery production or handling. This type of pruning is a common horticultural practice and does not impact the long-term health or growth of the tree when properly planted and cared for. That said, we understand that expectations can vary. After you shared your concerns, our leadership team reviewed the situation and chose to resolve the matter by issuing a full refund. Simply Trees ships thousands of live plants nationwide each year, and our team works carefully to prepare plants for safe transport and successful establishment once planted. As outlined in our 1-year guarantee, we offer a replacement so customers can receive a healthy plant and continue growing successfully. In your case, our team reviewed your concern and approved a replacement under the guarantee. The $19.95 shipping fee helps cover a portion of the cost required to safely package and ship live plants. Simply Trees covers the cost of the replacement plant itself. We understand that not every customer will feel comfortable with the replacement shipping fee, but this policy allows us to continue offering a long-term plant guarantee while shipping live plants and trees nationwide. Our goal is always to support our customers and provide a fair resolution when concerns arise. The approved replacement plants are still available under our guarantee with the $19.95 shipping fee should you wish to proceed.

We’re truly sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve had with your tree. We know how disappointing it is to invest in a plant and see it decline, and we understand your frustration. After checking your order details, your tree was delivered in March, and we first heard from you about the scale issue on October 24th. Because this was several months after delivery, it unfortunately falls outside of our guarantee window. When pests like scale are reported right away, or shortly after arrival, we are always happy to offer a replacement or refund in line with our policy. Scale is an airborne pest that can affect any plant at any time, even when no other plants are present, which is why early detection is so important. Once you reached out, our team provided the full set of care and treatment steps we offer to help resolve pest issues when they occur later in the plant’s life. We always aim to support our customers as much as possible within our policy, and we’re sorry that this situation fell outside of what we’re able to cover.
