Doesn't distinguish urination events or cats
Doesn't distinguish urination events from defecation events, which is a huge deal breaker for me. I can basically just buy a cheap motion activated camera to set up on my cat's litter boxes for the same purposes without the monthly fee that does basically the same thing. For my cat with FLUTD, I need to know when he is peeing versus straining versus defecating, and I want to get an alert about that. If I have to self monitor all his footage to see when he is peeing, I might as well just use a cheap trail camera. I bought these as an alternative to the Petivity litterbox monitoring scales, which I've noticed aren't sensitive enough to pick up smaller urination events, which can be a warning sign for urinary blockage. I was hoping these cameras would be capable of picking up urination events, because they promise to pick up runny poop, which seems similar. I am disappointed at the emphasis on poop when there are so many prevalent, potentially fatal diseases that can be detected by changes in urination in cats like FLUTD and CKD. The benefit of sorting the footage by cat and noticing how many "visits" per day is really very minimal and not at all worth a monthly fee. This product would be worthwhile with more development. FLUTD affects around 1.6 million cats in the USA alone, and as an owner of a cat that nearly died from this condition, I would be interested in this product if it could detect smaller urination events than usual, alert me if my cat has gone a veterinarian determined amount of time without urinating, alert me if my cat has entered the litterbox while posturing to urinate without producing urine, or alert me if my cat has vocalized in the litterbox. These are all things I get asked at the vet, and these are all signs a potentially fatal blockage could be impending. Until then, I will be discontinuing my service, returning these cameras, and self-monitoring with a trail camera.
