I haven’t given a review on SOS in some time. However, I maintain my position about THH, the Tom Hurd Hustle having to pay $5000 to $6000 for a course that is guaranteed not to refund your money nor guarantee your success with many people being burned while old Tom gets rich selling pricey subscriptions. My latest proof source is Chat GPT about Tom’s SOS, Short Option Success. Who can doubt AI or artificial intelligence’s objectivity? Do your search and see what AI has to say about Tom Hurd and Short Option Success. I guarantee that you will think twice about plunking down your credit card after reading this critical review.

Buyer beware!
Don't be a fool and join this service. I paid $5k in 2024 to join and did nothing but lose money. Tom Hurd is a professional marketer. His personal account has lost tens of thousands of dollars ($54k in Jan 26 alone). He makes his money selling his non refundable program to those who don't take the time to investigate it very thoroughly.

This guy Hurd is a marketing machine…
This guy Hurd is a marketing machine selling his $5000 to $6000 subscriptions (nonrefundable)! He makes you sign off on the no refund policy prior to entry into his scheme. Is that confidence in his product or just an excuse for you to sign on the dotted line and say goodbye to your funds? For a guy supposedly making $$$$$ trading, you will see him regularly on Facebook hustling new clients. REGULARLY!! Ask yourself, where is old Hurd making his money? Trading or selling 4 figure subscriptions on a regular basis? Check this site and see that the amount of one star reviews are starting to become more regular with good detail and explanation of why for these abysmal ratings. Old Hurd continues to refute these single star reviews with his same old “ clients who take my EXCELLENT education are not following the rules!” Tom, how many times will you depict these one star reviewers as less than smart people not following your rules? It’s truly a shame that you continue to pitch your scheme to unknowing people just to fleece them of their hard earned money. It’s really sad!

Spoiler: You Get Wrecked
Here’s how this “strategy” plays out in real life.
August: You sell $2,000 of crude oil options with 60-100 days to expiration. At the same time, you buy back the June options (originally sold for $2,000) for just $400, locking in a $1,600 gain.
September: The rhythm continues. You sell another $2,000 worth of premium, again with 60-100 DTE. July’s options, now worth a lot less, are bought back for $400. Another $1,600 profit. Another turn in the cycle that feels like everything is working.
October: You sell $2,000 of new crude options, 60-100 DTE, just as before. Crude price detonates overnight - up 4% while you sleep. The next morning, another 3% surge. Panic spreads across the board. Your short call options, once a quiet cash cow, have turned into explosive liabilities. What was $3,000 in notional exposure is now worth $10,000, and climbing. The bid-ask spreads widen to the size of the Grand Canyon. Worse, your broker is watching. Margin demands spike. You don’t have the luxury of waiting it out. You’re getting seriously squeezed. Maybe you don’t want to exit. You think maybe you can ride it out. But margin won’t let you think. Your buying power evaporates. You're forced to close, not because you’re necessarily wrong, but because you can’t afford to be right anymore. You scramble to exit, but slippage eats you alive. You’re filled at $11,000. Loss: $8,000.
You turn to your put side for cover. Nothing. The underlying hasn’t fallen, but volatility has erupted. The puts are sticky, inflated, refusing to decay. They’ve completely hardened. The pain is one-sided. You’ve been blindsided, and there’s no hedge, no hero, no exit plan that saves you. The strategy that quietly printed small gains for a few months has now drawn blood.
The next day, price stabilizes at the higher level, chopping around without clear direction. Premiums are still elevated, but the market feels calmer, almost inviting. You tell yourself you can claw some of it back. You lean in and sell $800 worth of call premium. The next morning, crude opens quiet. Controlled. Predictable. Then, at 9:30 a.m., it jolts, ripping another 1.5% over the next three hours. Volatility reignites. Spreads balloon. Premiums spike. You're back in the fire, just one day later. You slam the position shut for $1,900. Another $1,100 gone. Just like that. The same 3-4 month cycle just repeats, where you get some wins, and then get completely wiped out.
Guys - this isn’t a strategy. It’s a razor’s edge masquerading as income. It works...until it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, it doesn’t just fail - it punishes you for believing it ever worked at all.

This critique presents a highly oversimplified and incomplete picture of options selling that fundamentally misrepresents what we teach at Short Option Success. The reviewer appears to be describing naked, unmanaged option selling without any of the risk management techniques that form the cornerstone of our proven methodology.
What This Review Gets Wrong:
The scenario described here is essentially someone selling naked options with zero risk management, no position sizing discipline, and no exit strategies - which is absolutely NOT what we teach. This is like critiquing professional race car driving by describing someone who removes all safety equipment and drives blindfolded.
Our Actual Strategy Includes:
Comprehensive Risk Management: We teach specific techniques for managing positions before they become problematic, including rolling strategies, adjustment techniques, and proper position sizing relative to account size.
Professional Trade Management: Our members learn when and how to take profits, when to adjust positions, and how to avoid the exact scenarios described in this review.
Proper Market Selection: We don't just randomly sell options on volatile commodities without consideration for market conditions, volatility environment, and risk-reward ratios.
Multiple Safety Nets: Unlike the naked approach described here, we teach layered defensive strategies that protect capital during adverse market moves.
Real Member Results Speak Differently:
Our community consistently shares success stories and positive feedback from members who have implemented our complete system - not the stripped-down version this reviewer is critiquing. Members regularly report steady, consistent profits specifically because they're using proper risk management techniques that this review completely ignores.
The Bottom Line:
This review isn't actually about our coaching program, community, or complete strategy at all. It's a critique of reckless, unmanaged option selling that bears no resemblance to what we teach. The personal guidance, comprehensive education, and ongoing support our members receive creates an entirely different experience and outcome than what's described here.
Anyone can make options selling look dangerous by removing all the safety measures - just like anyone can make driving look deadly by removing seatbelts, airbags, and traffic laws. What we teach is the professional, systematic approach that has helped countless members achieve consistent profitability in their options trading.

Highly risky, weak risk management
The core strategy is selling naked options on a handful of highly volatile commodities, mainly crude oil, gold and silver. Small wins are fairly common, until they’re completely wiped out by the inevitable blow-ups. It’s the essence of picking up pennies in front of a steamroller. In April, many members took massive losses that could take months to recover from, and that’s only if everything goes smoothly from here. These aren’t black swan events - every few months, there’s a sharp move, and months of small profits are wiped out, and then some.
When trades go against you, the go-to “solution” is to roll further out, locking in losses while doubling down on risk. Over time, the average days to expiration of trades have gotten longer (90 days plus), which increases exposure and reduces the benefit of theta decay. During periods of high volatility, bid-ask spreads go through the roof, and margin requirements can spike 50% or more, compounding the damage. There’s little focus on understanding or managing the systemic risk inherent in these commodities. Since most of them trade overnight during the week, you can wake up to a screen full of red with no good exit options.
The course fee isn’t worth it. Whatever the price is now, you'd be better off using that capital to trade small and learn by doing. The polished marketing doesn’t reflect the real risk you’re signing up for.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, though I respectfully disagree with several key points in your assessment.
First, our strategy is not "naked options" - we employ specific risk management techniques and position sizing that this review doesn't acknowledge. While commodity option selling does involve inherent risks (as does any investment strategy), characterizing our approach as having "weak risk management" misrepresents the systematic safeguards we teach.
Regarding the April situation mentioned - market volatility affects all trading strategies, and experienced traders understand that drawdowns are part of any long-term approach. What matters is the overall track record, which spans nearly 20 years of consistent performance through multiple market cycles.
The claim about "rolling further out" as our primary solution oversimplifies our actual adjustment protocols. Our members learn multiple management techniques, not just one approach.
Most importantly, our member satisfaction speaks for itself. The overwhelming majority of our community remains actively engaged and reports positive experiences with both the strategy and the coaching. Many have shared testimonials about achieving their financial goals using these methods.
It's worth noting that criticizing a coaching program simply because you don't personally favor the underlying strategy isn't entirely fair. A program's value should be measured by the quality of education, support, and member outcomes - areas where we consistently receive positive feedback.
Every investment approach has risks, and commodity option selling isn't suitable for everyone. We're transparent about this from the beginning. However, for those who understand and accept these risks, our systematic approach has proven effective over nearly two decades.
We respect that this strategy wasn't the right fit for you and wish you success with whatever approach better aligns with your risk tolerance and investment philosophy.

Tom Hurd is at it again
Tom Hurd is at it again. I just caught his ad for a free options course. This is nothing but an incentive for you to buy his $6k course. His trading strategy lost over $13k in April 2025. Too bad for those who followed his trades and got hammered too. He doesn't even follow his own strategy and buys options. Please don't fall for gimmicks.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We understand that trading involves risk, and not every strategy works for everyone.
During April 2025, our program did experience a temporary drawdown of approximately 7% ($13k on a $190k account) due to unexpected market volatility following the tariff announcements. Despite this challenge, Tom's account remains up over 80% for the year, and we've been seeing solid recovery.
Regarding our approach: we teach a comprehensive strategy that sometimes includes buying options as a risk management tool during unusual market conditions. This is an intentional part of our systematic approach to protecting capital.
Our program is designed as a mentorship community where members receive real-time support. We recently conducted a satisfaction survey among our members, with results available here: https://shortoptionsuccess.com/survey-results
If you're currently a member experiencing concerns, we'd welcome the opportunity to address them directly. Please reach out to our support team so we can better understand your specific situation and see how we might help.
For those considering our program, we encourage you to review feedback from current members and determine if our approach aligns with your trading goals.
I have not purchased SOS training. My review is based on my experience with having a 45 minute discussion with a sales rep about the program.
The first thing to note is that SOS conducts a loud and persistent sales effort to recruit people to the program. From the moment you schedule the half hour consultation, you get bombarded with texts and emails with threats and pushes to keep your commitment to the scheduled time. And because their CRM seems pretty broken, you get emails and texts questioning why haven't you scheduled the consult yet.
So right off the bat SOS was on my "this is dubious" ledger. Truly successful programs get sought after, not hard sold in my experience.
You have to ask the question "If SOS can return 10% per month, why are they wasting time trying to sell a $6000 course?"
During my half hour consultation I asked twice about whether there is any evidence I could see to back up the claim of 10% per month returns. I was told that I was being sent emails that would have that information.
The emails had links to videos which did not provide anything approximating evidence. No broker statements, no trade examples, and no clear information about what the trading strategy is.
The only clear statement about the strategy in the videos is that it only uses selling of options. This is naked trading, and any cautious trader should have a plan to mitigate risk. Trusting that the trading guru has abnormal success in selecting winning trades is faith based trading, and only the gullible or imprudent accept faith as a plan, especially so when no evidence is offered of a completely abnormal success rate.
So I responded by asking in email again whether I could see examples of the trades they are making, and what the strategy does to hedge risk.
This email was not responded to.
During the discussion the sales rep indicated that I was a person that would fit in with their program and to please ask follow up questions. So I can only assume they found my questions objectionable.
Also part of the sales presentation is to sell the group of other people who have joined the program as great people willing to help others succeed. There is emphasis put on the sales screening on SOS wants people who can be trained and are good at working with other people.
Since being part of the SOS group is presented as a key benefit of joining SOS it raised my curiosity as to why joining a "great group of people" would be so highly promoted. These people are all students looking to learn how to make money, so by definition they are not mentors.
I understand how having discussions with fellow traders would have value, but I would not elevate it to being a principle reason to invest time and money learning the SOS methodology.
So along with my question about getting some evidence about the performance of SOS, I asked about the moderation and nature of discussions in the group. Anyone with experience on chat groups on Facebook or other social media groups knows how toxicity can ruin the experience so you do not want to waste time there.
Perhaps it was my question about the chat groups was the trigger that caused the sales rep to quit communicating with me. I would not be surprised because the nature of the sales pitch seems organized to recruit followers that will obey.
Bottom line, I was not able to get anything close to evidence that SOS can deliver on its claims, and not only was SOS unable to provide extraordinary evidence, they were unwilling to provide any evidence. This lack of transparency is a no go for me.
Edit after seeing the reply from SOS
As to the claim that my email response was not received, it is in my send folder and there was no error indicated by Yahoo that it was not delivered.
More importantly, note that in the SOS response they do not address my concern about not providing evidence for their claimed extraordinary success rate. And as I titled my review, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I leave it to the attentive reader to make their own judgements as to the importance of this point to their decision.

When you downloaded Tom's ebook, you were enrolled in our educational newsletter providing weekly trading insights and program information. We acknowledge there may have been some overlap in communications during our recent system upgrade, and we appreciate your patience as we continuously refine our processes.
Short Option Success is not simply a video course, but rather a comprehensive one-year professional development program offering personalized coaching, interactive group sessions, and ongoing mentorship. Our members receive unlimited access to personalized one-on-one coaching, interactive group sessions, and ongoing mentorship designed to build lasting trading expertise that delivers exceptional, consistent, monthly returns, all while not having tremendous stress or spending hours in front of the computer trading.
Tom's decision to create this program stems from his passion for education and his desire to share almost two decades of trading experience with others. While he has achieved significant success using these strategies, he finds profound fulfillment in helping others develop similar skills through structured, professional instruction.
Regarding performance documentation: Comprehensive trading evidence was provided in the preliminary materials, including 18 months of verified trading statements from TD Ameritrade and Schwab, along with detailed spreadsheets of active positions. The 10% monthly figure represents Tom's historical average, with typical returns ranging between 5-15%. As you acknowledged during your consultation, these figures represent past performance rather than guaranteed results.
Our trading approach focuses on selling options specifically in the commodity futures market, which operates differently from equity markets. Risk management is a cornerstone of our program, incorporating comprehensive protocols including position sizing, market correlation analysis, and strategic adjustment techniques.
Upon review of our records, we have no record of receiving your follow-up email. We encourage you to contact our support team at [email protected] for any questions. Our community of approximately 300 members creates exceptional value through collaborative learning, with many experienced traders sharing insights alongside newer members. The success of our approach is demonstrated through our members' achievements, with several participants having progressed to become assistant coaches within our program. This organic growth of expertise within our community validates both our teaching methodology and the effectiveness of our trading strategies.
We recognize that our intensive, hands-on approach to trading education isn't suitable for everyone, and we respect that. Our focus remains on maintaining a collaborative learning environment for those who align with our teaching philosophy and community values. The transformative results we've witnessed among our members continue to validate our educational approach and strengthen our commitment to trading excellence.
