Not paying commitments to people doing surveys and interviews
I am a full-time student and earn extra income by doing online surveys and product reviews. One of the companies I work with is Focus Group by Sago. When I participated in my first focus group for advertisement of a test for stroke victims it took me three months to get them to post my incentive points worth $145. They kept saying they were still waiting for the head of the research team to get back to them. I had to email them regularly, every 3 to 5 days, to get my points posted. Eventually, they did post them, and I was awarded a $145 virtual Visa card. However, when I tried to redeem it, I was told to allow up to 20 days for processing. I waited, but it took another three months before I finally received my $145 incentive. I had to continuously follow up with Sago to make that happen. The company handling the redemption for Sago informed me that they were facing difficulties meeting their redemption time limits. Despite this experience, I decided to give them another chance. Things seemed to go smoothly until I redeemed my points for another survey worth $30 which led to my participation in an online group interview that took 90 minutes out of my busy school schedule. This brought my total incentives to $160 for that product which I redeemed for another virtual Visa card on April 15th. Now, nearly 30 days have passed since the redemption, and I received another email on May 8th stating that Sago was again having trouble honoring their redemptions. They mentioned it could take 4 to 6 weeks before I might receive my incentive, if at all. The first time this happened, I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) just to get them to respond to my emails and pay me my incentive. Now, it looks like I may have to file another complaint, which is frustrating because I shouldn’t have to deal with this, especially when I have such a busy school schedule. If Sago is having so much trouble honoring their incentives, it shouldn’t be in the research and survey business. They need individuals in their accounting department to run things more effectively. It seems the company is not being managed by honorable or competent people.
