The customer service is extremely unhelpful. I thought I would save money by signing up for the six month plan. However, I soon realized that the app is nothing like what I thought. Within an hour, I messaged them asking for a refund. I listed my reasons and got responses that basically said "Not our problem." Personally, I will get minimal use out of this. I recommend signing up for the least amount of time initially to avoid wasting as much money.

Hey Kirk,
I appreciate your feedback but do disagree with the context. I did not say "not our problem," I gave specific suggestions that I believe were reasonable solutions to your inquiries. The 2 main points you had addressed in your tickets were:
1. You were upset that our app would require an internet connection to use.
2. You were upset that you could not change the e-mail address that you had signed up with.
I had replied by stating:
1. Almost all apps in today's world require an internet connection to log in to and use in general. I had suggested that for any camping trips you took (and planned to follow the plan on), you could save the recipes as a PDF file or print them which is an option within the app itself. Either of those methods would allow you to access the information without an internet connection.
2. You had signed up using your Google account (using your Google account as authentication instead of a password). I do not have control over how you signed up nor do I have the power to change that for you. The authentication service and the subscription management software we use are 2 different platforms for security reasons.
I had suggested that you sign up using whatever account you wanted and I could help facilitate transferring the subscription to that one, instead.
Again, I believe both of these solutions are both reasonable and direct solutions to your issues.
Best,

Bad Recipes, Bad App, Will Steal Your Money
I signed up for a 3-month subscription with Ruled.me/ Keto Academy. I used only 2 of the 3 months because their site wasn't really user friendly and their recipes weren't that great. Be aware that they will bill you in perpetuity and just take money out of your account unless you get in touch with them to cancel. These "subscription" plans with no notifications are being recognized by banks as predatory. I only heard from them again after getting a new credit card when they couldn't just reach in and help themselves to my cash. They wouldn't refund what they took without my permission because "I didn't hear from you in all that time". Yeah, because I wasn't using your crappy product any more.

As we talked about in our e-mails, you had logged in during the 3-months in question. I don't control how people use their subscriptions. Some people download their plans and only log in to generate new meal plans, other people log in on a daily basis and follow everything in the app.
The fact that you had logged in after the subscription renewal happened shows that you were still using the service. Whether you chose to download your meal plan is not something that I can see. It's like purchasing a subscription for Netflix, watching a few shows, then not using it again for the remainder of your subscription. You still used the service and that's something that they will not refund you for, especially 3 months after the fact. The same happens with most online services.
I am extremely open with how the subscriptions work. During the checkout, there's large bolded text showing that the subscriptions renew automatically. In your initial order receipt, you're also told that it's auto-renewing. You can very easily cancel by visiting the 'Account Settings' page in your plan and clicking cancel. It's 2 clicks to cancel your subscription. You also agreed to those terms when you had registered your account.
If you don't like meals in your plan, you can always go to the 'Meal Plan Editor' tab and replace them in 1 click as well. You didn't seem to have any issues with the meal plans in the several tickets that you had submitted during your subscription. I would have been happy to help you adjust your plan (as I did so when you were asking how to re-generate your plans in different ways).

Be very careful and know ahead of time…
Be very careful and know ahead of time that you are signing up for an auto-pay subscription. A 6-month subscription (instead of the usual annual type.) No pre-warning or notice that your account is about to be charged; no option to cancel, no nothing. Yes, the ultimate responsibility is on me, however, the subscription service was never realized or made clear. And the owner of the service refuses to cooperate. Great service in this time of Covid and job losses. Thanks, Bud.

The subscriptions are auto-renewing as described during the checkout process, in your initial order receipt, and PayPal also sent you a secondary e-mail notifying you that a subscription was set up. You can cancel your subscription at any time by visiting the 'Account Settings' page or by simply emailing me.
You had opened up a claim on the payment through PayPal less than 5 minutes after you sent an e-mail to me, so I had no chance to work with you on this. Like I have told you in our communication, I would have been happy to work with you and come to an agreement on giving a majority refund. Usually, this happens by reducing your subscription to a 1-month plan and then refunding you the difference. As you can see in some of the other reviews, this has happened before and I have worked with people on this.
When you open a claim on PayPal, that money goes into escrow and PayPal takes over the matter. I have to submit information to them and then they decide on the case. Once you open that claim, I lose control over being able to help out. I've repeated this over and over in our communication but you don't seem to understand that.
Now you're angry that you opened a PayPal claim instead of waiting the 10 minutes it took me to reply to you initially. You're not reviewing the product itself, but reviewing something that ultimately was your own responsibility. It seems like no matter what, I can't win in this situation. It really sucks to hear that you have lost your job due to COVID but I do hope that situation gets better in the future.

No refunds, poor product.
No refunds, poor site, and not a real App, just a web link that you need to log into every time on your phone if you want to use it. I knew within a couple of hours after paying for the product that it was a mistake and tried to get my money back but they don't offer a refund. What a scam, stay very far away.
And as you can see from their reply, is the exact reason you need to stay away from this company. They refuse to give a refund and tell you that their product does exactly what you want it to do when I as the consumer would be the one to know best if it works for me or not.
Any company that has a no refund policy tells you that they don't believe in their own product!
When I was trying to find recipes, their website says they have over 1,000 but I didn't think I saw that many when browsing so I wanted to check for myself and here is what I found. For breakfast there were 65 choices, for lunch 82 and for dinner 99. Some of them looked like the same choices so when I did a quick comparison between breakfast and lunch I found that at least 11 recipes were the same.
I wanted to see what I got for choices if I changed some of my profile parameters and when I asked it to build my recipes for me I got this message "Not enough meals to support your current selection." So I guess depending on who you are they may not have any recipes for you at all, and with no refund policy that isn't a very good use of your money.
As I mentioned I had to log in every time to bring up their so-called app. Well, I was in the grocery store to test out their shopping list function and because there wasn't an internet connection available in the part of the store I was in and I have to log in, I couldn't even bring up the shopping list, again another waste of money.
They say that they have a search function, but it only works if you put in 1 word. Want to search for chicken, ok you get recipes with chicken. Want to search for chicken and broccoli, well it no longer brings up any recipes because it doesn't work for multiple words.
Their responses only reaffirm my above messages that they do not care about customer satisfaction or working on improving their product. I created multiple macros to test it out and found that 1 profile did not give any recipes at all. Their response "because I created multiple macros they have fulfilled their promise." They didn't even read that 1 of them created NO recipes at all.
I tell them that it's not a real app and just a web link that doesn't work if there is no internet connection. Their response "download the PDF" what good is that if I can't access it? I'm out of luck.
Again poorly designed app, which not customer service at all...Stay away from this app, there are free sites that give you more than this.

Hey Paul,
I tried to work on this with you as all of the features you requested are already available. You had contacted me 24 hours after you had subscribed and after making several different meal plans with 3 main contentions:
1. You wanted something that was more family-based.
2. You wanted to browse recipes based on an ingredient.
3. You wanted to share recipes with your wife (as well as create a shopping list based on the recipes you chose)
All 3 of those features are available within the meal planner as explained to you in our e-mail exchange.
1. You can input how many people are being cooked for which will multiply the meals in your plan by however many people you enter.
2. You can browse recipes based on an ingredient, meal timing, meal type, or cuisine. You can use the filter feature to browse by ingredient type (i.e. chicken, beef, vegetarian, etc.) or you can enter those individual ingredients in the search bar to find recipes using those ingredients.
3. You can either save or print the recipes in your plan. A weekly shopping list is also created based on the meals chosen that you can either save or print.
Our app is what's known as a progressive web app, which is allowed to be put in the app/play store and is considered a real app.
I'm very sorry to hear you believe this is a scam, but the meal plans you created are tailored for your macros and fit within your requirements.
To address your update:
We have over 1500 recipes in the meal planner, but not all of them will be able to fit within your required macros or meal preferences.
For example, you have your meal timings set to the minimum possible time, so most baked recipes (like casseroles, pies, and frittatas), soups, instant pot, and slow cooker recipes will not be included in your plan. If you start avoiding main food groups (like dairy, or meat, for example), then fewer recipes will be usable.
Not every recipe can be scaled to fit into the required macros of your profile as well. Some recipes will have different ratios of fat to protein and won't be a good fit for your plan. For example, you have 'Active' selected under your activity level, so your protein requirements are higher than most people on keto - this will disallow the lower protein meals that we have.
Additionally, the surrounding meals make a difference in the available meals. For example, if you choose a higher fat and lower protein breakfast recipe, the lunch and dinner will need to be higher in protein and lower in fat to compensate for this. Depending on the meals you choose, different recipes will be available for the remaining meals.
With all of that considered, an average of 75 meal choices in each category is a good amount of variety, considering your profile and time requirements. You could create over a year's worth of meal plans with that amount of recipes if you are choosing to have some leftovers (which it looks like you do, based on your profile).
There are certain circumstances where meal plans cannot be created (when every food category is avoided - i.e. vegan), or if there's a mistake in the user macros. In the cases where meal plans cannot be generated, we offer refunds to those customers. I do not recommend our meal planner for vegan keto users as we just don't have enough vegan recipes to support a full plan.
As far as the shopping list goes, you can save the shopping list as a PDF file to view any time and without an internet connection. There is a large, blue 'Download' button at the top of the shopping list page that you can always keep for a backup just in case you don't have internet when shopping. You can access the saved PDF shopping list without an internet connection.
Again, I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed but you've already created over 5 meal plans that were specifically scaled to fit your set of macros. Our meal planner is designed with your macros in mind, and I believe based on how many meal plans you've created, we have fulfilled that promise.

Give This A Pass - Better Websites Out There
I bought the 3 month app and right away realized that I didn't like most of the recipes, it was complicated to use, and didn't give me the options to sort that I wanted if I wanted to change a recipe suggestion. Plus it didn't take into account leftovers. I contacted the site right away and was told no refunds. because people could steal the content. Believe me, there isn't content worth stealing. It seems like a scam to me. I did cancel the recurring payment; I hope that works. I have never heard of a no refund policy for something like this, which is very sketchy. It was my fault for not doing my due diligence, so don't make the same mistake. There are much better programs out there for the price.
Response from Ruled.MeFeb 18, 2021
With our meal planner, you can swap out recipes that you do not like. If a meal plan is generated for you, the meals can be replaced with other meals that fit within your needed macros. You can also avoid meals you don't want so that they don't show up in the future.
Our meal planning app does take into account leftovers. If you are having a plan generated for you, the leftovers are based on the leftover preferences you entered. If you are building a plan yourself, you can select leftovers for any meal (as long as they fit into your needed macros for that day).
I'm not able to locate the ticket(s) you submitted, so I can't comment on your exact situation but I usually offer partial refunds in instances like this. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] and I can take a look into it further.
