I booked a 7 day cruise to Norway for 2 adults and 2 children in a Grand Loft Suite which I cancelled today losing my deposit. The customer service at Royal Caribbean is terrible when you can even get through to somebody that is. There is also a real lack of information when you book about the reality of travelling with small children on a cruise to Norway… my youngest wouldn’t be allowed in any of the indoor pools (it’s cold in Norway so he can’t be in the splash pad on the deck) nor would he be able to attend the kids club with his sister as at just over two he’s not potty trained. My daughter although 6 and over the age limit is not actually tall enough to ride on most of the rides/activities… this is all information that I found out after the fact by joining the Facebook pages which are far more informative than the Royal Caribbean website that you have to scour through… I would rather forfeit my deposit than have a terrible holiday with nothing to do to keep my kids entertained for 7 days.

Quick to take your money, impossible to get customer service afterwards
Quick to take your money, impossible to get customer service afterwards. I have had two generic email confirmations that my request was being looked into, one on OCT 21st and one on NOV 13th, it is now DEC 13th and I have still had no reply.
My partner is pregnant and we need to cancel our cruise. Phones are not working, and no responses. If this is how hard it is to get someone to reply to an email, imagine how well they will treat you on the cruise! To not even bother even attempting to respond within 2 months shows you exactly how much they care about their customers.

Terrible first experience with Royal…
Terrible first experience with Royal Caribbean cruises so far.
Booked a Caribbean cruise for 10 nights for a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) directly with them on their website.
Selected 2x interconnecting rooms.
After receiving email about a change to my booking I didn’t initiate I called Royal Caribbean who told me that they couldn’t actually provide interconnecting rooms for my family.
They told me that one room was interconnecting but the other wasn’t - what a nonsense.
They also told me that if I wanted to cancel it would be 50% cancellation fee.
I’m now going through formal complaint and am contacting consumer rights lawyers with a view to suing them for full refund and any losses that I may incur as a result of their breach of our contract.
What a disgrace.

Avoid Royal Caribbean Cruises
This was to be our first cruise setting sail on the 28/7/22 on Vision of the Seas. Our party consisted of 4 people. We booked 2 staterooms, 1 with my mother in law (mil) and 16 year old daughter, the other with my husband and I. It is required to do a Covid Antigen test 2 days before sailing, my mil who doesn’t live with us, tested positive. We were very sad that she wasn’t able to join us but our work schedules determined this was our only chance of a Summer Holiday. RC policy is a full refund if a passenger tests positive so I called to get that refund for my mil and find out if we could move my daughter into a stateroom with us. That’s where the nightmare began. First off, the RC representative wanted to outright cancel our holiday due to my mil testing positive. I explained that we lived separately so we wouldn’t be infected. Then he advised me that to move into an interior stateroom with a sleeper couch (we had booked a stateroom with a sea view) would cost an extra £700 extra. When I said that was unacceptable, could I rather stay in my daughters cabin they said they would change me to the lead passenger for, wait for it, around £700 because my mil would forfeit around £700 of the £865 she’d paid for her ticket. The advisor told me these costs where because WE were past the 7 day before sailing time limit to make changes. I highlighted the 2 day pre-sailing Covid test was their policy and what were the contingencies should a passenger test positive?? None apparently. Your only choice if this happens is cancel your trip for a full refund which takes 30-45 days (not the 7-10 working days stipulated online) or pay significantly more for any changes. I held for over an hour for no resolve other than cancelling our holiday for the Summer because at this late stage we cannot find a holiday below £1350 per person. We were prepared to pay extra within reason for a bigger stateroom or changing a lead passenger to the cabin with my daughter but on principle we were not going to let that cost be as high as £700. We asked if we could replace mil with our older daughter which was met with another decline. We faced losing £260 each on flights which thankfully BA has given us vouchers to that value but we have lost £120 on Covid testing and £160 on our airport parking. RC are unprepared to budge in their policies and when asked how to raise a formal complaint I was told that basically the advisor had escalated my complaint and that was that.
Aside from these issues I would also like to highlight especially for first time cruisers that what you think you are paying for isn’t really what you get. Once you’ve paid for your cruise you then get frequent emails to upgrade your package from £350 pp for dining, £80 pp for Soda’s, water, coffee, Wi-Fi… and this is over and above what you would expect for excursions. It’s really exorbitant and if their customer service is anything to go by I feel totally disillusioned by what our holiday would have entailed.
