Harvesting rain is a practice that has been around for centuries. Cisterns and other rain harvesting systems are widely used in Europe, Australia, India, the Bahamas and countless remote countries - many who depend solely on rain for day to day life. When water supply becomes limited, practical solutions can fill the gap. Rainwater harvesting systems provide distributed stormwater runoff containment while simultaneously storing water which can be used for irrigation, flushing toilets, washing clothes, washing cars, pressure washing,or it can be purified for use as everyday drinking water. You can really take this as far as you want. But it all comes down to various filtration and processing systems.Explore: Let us guide you through the entire process.Understand: With our rainharvest lab it becomes easy for you to envision a rainharvest system of your own.Collect: There is more rain coming, catch it.

The unit works, but the leaves and trash tend to build up on the top screen, (maybe they will blow off when dry) and it is difficult to clean the interior screen without getting some of the dirt falling into the inlet. I also have a first flush after the screen, but why not make the interior screen easier to remove?

Works fine but not with standard (drain/sewer) PVC pipe
The Leaf Eater Advanced filter works as advertised. However, it's made for schedule 40 pipe which was a problem for us because we use standard drain pipe (pvc) to collect water off of our roof. This means that we could not get a good seal between the Leaf Eater & the collection pipes. I had to go on a scavenger hunt for adapters to make it work (what a nightmare). It would be great if RainHarvest Systems offered an adapter in the box or gave us the option to add one to our order in order to use these filters with standard piping.

Thank you for resolving the shipping and handling satisfactorily
While there were some issues regarding expectations in the shipping and delivery of the 500 gallon tank I ordered, this issue was resolved to my satisfaction after a few phone calls. RainHarvest Systems did indeed follow through with their efforts to provide satisfactory service of a third party responsible for the shipping. Thank you!

I experienced backorder problems and…
I experienced backorder problems and had to install some parts after the job was done. My back order was mixed up with someone else which was nearly identical except for one part which was not worth the effort to return. I was able to find what I needed locally. Was good to know because I like to trade local.

Making RWH work
Well, thanks to RWH, and the plumbers who helped build my house, and a great deal of blood, sweat and tears on my part--I have what I have always wanted: a rainwater harvesting system. However, I should have bought a much larger tank, and one with a manhole into which an actual human could fit for the purposes of clean out. Eventually, the tank will have to be drained and the inevitable sediment cleaned out. 95 percent of the tanks sold by RWH, so far as I can tell, do not have a decent sized manhole. The ones that do, are in-ground and many times more expensive. I have to wonder how those are cleaned--especially if one' site does not admit for a pump truck to clean it. Further, pump trucks are designed for pumping sewage--not water. So! How do you clean them? Next, the water filter (UV) NEVER worked! It was defective from the outset. By the time I wasted time trying to make it work by changing the bulb, my warranty had lapsed, and RWH would not make good on it. But, that may have been just as well, as it would have cost me the price of the UV mechanism--to have it removed and re-installed. So, it hangs on the wall of the basement unplugged and unused. A piece of $500+ wall art. So, I use my system for everything but cooking/drinking water. To compensate, I run drinking water from the tap through a ceramic system and boil it. Highly advise anyone determined to harvest rain for whole-house applications to consider buying the top of the line in-ground tank with at least 1250 gal capacity and then buy a pump that can pump out sludge every year or two. Have the whole thing installed by someone who knows what they are doing. Skip the UV light treatment and treat your own water with a countertop ceramic filter and boiling. The UV light bulb is very expensive and must be replaced yearly. Oh! and the first flush diverter is virtually useless as well. Instead, get a 30 gallon pre-tank and replace it, or remove and clean it out as needed. Another thing: Get a Leaf-Eater gutter system installed. It will eliminate a great deal of gunk from getting in your tank in the first place. Pricey, but totally worth it!

I did not receive the part that…
I did not receive the part that connects the diverter to the barrel. I will have to modify the former piece so it fits.
I thought there would be many more pieces. We didn't put it out yet, because we are decorating it. I did install the diverter with no problems, but realized the piece that goes into the barrel was missing until recently.
Would like to get ti.

Ultra downspout filter and First Flush
I installed the Ultra downspout filter system about 3 yrs ago and had adequate results for about a year. Then the fiber washers wore out. I replaced them several times over the last 2 years, but never got the same performance. I scraped the whole system this summer and replaced it with the First Flush Diverter and Leaf Eater system. The results are much better, with a few modifications. First I scraped the drain and filter basket completely and replaced it with a 2"pvc T threaded into the bottom of a 55 gal plastic drum with a bulkhead fitting.
The bottom being a threaded 2" clean out and the side fitted with a hose bib to use the water in the flower beds. The ball diverter is installed on the top of the drum with a 2" bulkhead fitting. Above the diverter is a 3" pvc connected to the leaf catcher. This modified system has increased my capture rate significantly.
