On the 9th of December I collected my prescription for the nth time and left there in dismay. It didn't come as a surprise though - I have always found the ratio between the number of people (staff) and efficiency to be very odd, I thought even that this pharmacy was a front of some sorts.. But then, in the late afternoon of the 9th I was given a self- explanatory demonstration - as usual there were 3-4 people in the back and two at the counter. I was lucky and a cheerful young girl located my prescription but then she had to step aside as my prescription needed a senior's approval,. That person was one of those people in the back who happened to be gossiping about how clients smelled. For the purposes of painting an accurate picture I have to say that most of them looked like dead seals in their chairs. The smartest among them was in a religious head cover; as she approached me about my medication she saw an opportunity to teach me a free lesson on how white people were racist!. Sorry, it actually was the other way around but I have never heard a white person to be subjected to racism so with great shame I admit I was that precedent. After noticing I wasn't British ( as she checked my passport to verify my identity in accordance with the standard with that type of meds) she identified me as a potential outlet for her long lived sucking -up to the locals. I mean she was arrogant as she wanted , after all she had in front of her someone who looked like the locals but who wasn't one of them, and I knew then that that disparaging attitude wasn't personal, it was due the lack of common values; it was the hate and assuming of the dominant position among the ingredients in a multicultural society. Finally, when the transaction was over she was satisfied to throw the packet at me, but hey, I caught it, it didn't fall around and I was spared some feigned sorrys, so thank you!
