I had a bad experience with the organization. They invited me to the honor day and kept contacting me to be sure that I agreed to join them and pay the fee. I was so frustrated and disappointed during the honor day because I did not find my name among the other honored students on the invitation card. That's besides nobody contacted me to tell me to come earlier and enter with other students. It was embarrassing that I had to write my name on the back of a piece of paper so they could call me on the stage. Then I contacted them to raise my concern and frustration however, nobody replied back like they did not care that's besides that I spoke to their leader during the honor day, and she took my name to check the problem and promised to get back to me but she did not. I believe that the organization is not well established and organized and not professional (lack of communication). It did not help me with any kind of social skill improvement. All I can say is that I can put in on my resume.

Honestly, the only reason I joined PTK, is because apparently, it "looks good" on my resume'. I don't feel like you really "get" anything for the $90, and the induction, which I was really excited to be recognized at. However, it turned out to be a complete waste of my time, my husband's time, and my mother's time. It was nothing more than "PTK, blah, blah, blah", here's everyone's name on a power point, all smooshed together, and raise your hand if you're being inducted so we can give you a white rose. WOW. My husband and I alone, drove 45 minutes one-way, and my mother drove 2 hours, one-way. It was held in a completely different building than what was stated on the induction invite, with nothing outside to point you in the correct direction. You couldn't call each person up to recognize them individually and hand them a printed certificate or your white rose? I've told my classmates that were invited to PTK to not even bother with the induction "Ceremony." But whatever, if I get hired over someone else for having it on my resume', it will have been worth the $90.

Whenever I see the post of PTK, it says that students will develop leadership skills and bla-bla. But, I have been a PTK member for more than a year but never met any friends or got a chance to communicate with other fellow members. It didn't help me to develop my personal skills in any way.

I joined Phi Theta Kappa anticipating significant academic and networking benefits, but ended up significantly disappointed. Not only were the promised scholarships and support non-existent despite high dues and costly conventions, but the organization also seems to lack effective measures to protect its members from potential mistreatment. This gap between what is advertised and the reality has made me question the integrity and priorities of the organization. I advise potential members to approach with caution, keeping in mind these serious concerns.

The society portrays itself as a big deal but has little to no actual value. Further, the society has little to no safeguards in place to protect students from abuse. It does not provide the value that they claim, and it's sad how they are taking advantage of vulnerable students.
