I am loving Pimsleur
I am loving Pimsleur! This program is building fluency and confidence in my speaking. I've tried so hard studying languages on my own through Duolingo, and even Rosetta Stone, but Pimsleur wins in the actual communication category. With the conversation style lessons, you learn how to approach a conversation and even create with the language. You get the repetition you need in order to feel confident. The other thing that I love is that it slows things down when needed, but also gives you sufficient practice hearing the language at a natural pace. As a language teacher with a dream of becoming a polyglot, Pimsleur has inspired me to bring some of this methodology into my classroom and into my private lessons, while also helping me realize my own dream of speaking 4 or more languages!
Response from Pimsleur Language ProgramsAug 6, 2026
Hi Rilee, Thank you for such a thoughtful and inspiring review. We’re delighted to hear that Pimsleur is helping you build fluency, confidence, and real speaking and communication skills. That is exactly where the Pimsleur Method™ is designed to stand apart: helping learners move beyond studying or recognizing language and begin using it in actual conversation. You captured several important parts of the method beautifully. The conversation-style lessons help learners understand how real exchanges work, while Active Participation and carefully timed repetition give learners repeated opportunities to recall, respond, and create with the language. Dr. Paul Pimsleur called this spaced repetition system Graduated Interval Recall, and it helps learners retain what they study and speak with more confidence over time. We also appreciate your point about pacing. Pimsleur slows down new language when needed, then gives learners practice hearing and responding to the language at a more natural pace. Training the ear to recognize the rhythm, cadence, stress patterns, and subtle sound distinctions of a new language is crucial for real comprehension and speaking success, but it is often overlooked by programs that focus primarily on reading, writing, or visual recognition. It means so much to hear this from a language teacher, and we’re honored that the method has inspired ideas for your classroom and private lessons. We wish you continued success as you work toward your dream of speaking four or more languages! Best, The Pimsleur Team
