This company is awful beyond belief, I've had techs come 10 times to fix the same problem that no one can seem to be able to fix. Missed 10 days from work, stuck in this stupid contract and when i said I wanted the contract refunded because they've failed to do what there supposed to they wanted to charge me for all the service calls WHICH IS THERE FAULT for not fixing. Don't get involved with this company, I should have checked there scrappy reviews first.

One week wait for appt. with an annual emergency contract
I pay for emergency service thru an annual contract. Today I need emergency service and was told I have to wait one week for an appt. This is unacceptable and corrupt.

Bait and switch
We should have read these other reviews before doing business with this place, would have saved ourselves a likely scam!
My wife was explained the plan options, repeated them back to confirm, we (thought we) signed up for a rate that had a $3.81 per gallon ceiling, and our last bill was $5.50 per gallon. We tried to resolve the situation but they wouldn’t budge. We feel like this was a textbook bait and switch… like deliberately poorly communicated to have us fall into this exact trap. Lesson learned. Highly suggest not rewarding this company with your business, don’t make the same mistake we did.

I had an AC service appointment…
I had an AC service appointment scheduled for over a month, and the company cancelled on me an hour and a half after the appointment window was already supposed to start.
This was extremely frustrating because my job has very strict limits on work-from-home days, and I used one of my limited allotted days specifically for this appointment. The cancellation was not just inconvenient — it wasted my time and impacted my work schedule.
What made the situation worse was the customer service representative who called me. They were rude, unhelpful, and showed no concern at all for the fact that the company had wasted a customer’s time. There was no real apology, no sense of accountability, and no effort to make the situation right.
The most disappointing part is that this company requires customers to provide 24 hours’ notice to cancel, but apparently does not hold itself to the same standard when cancelling on customers. If customers are expected to respect the company’s schedule, the company should also respect the customer’s time.
Management should seriously review how cancellations are handled and how customers are treated when the company fails to honor scheduled appointments. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone who needs reliable service or values their time.

Terrible service
Terrible service. Supposed to figure out when you're low on fuel and come out automatically - hasn't ever once done so successfully and always has to be chased. Chasing may get you a delivery "in a few days" if you're lucky. During snow some of the drivers won't even try to deliver unless they see a completely snow free path to your tank (and won't even get out of the truck to check). Avoid.

I was a customer for years because…
I was a customer for years because Petro bought out the great company I was used to. When my service contract came up for renewal, I called and told Customer Service I would be moving before the end of the year. I was told to renew the contract, in case I needed it, but if I didn't use it, I'd get a refund. When I contacted them to cancel, I was told they never refund service contracts and only sent me the $500 I had remaining on my budget account. I complained online and immediately received a call from Jen, who apologized and said I'd received what was owed to me after using 6 months of my service contract. I explained that they never returned ANY portion of my service contract and she apologized and said I should've received an additional $500 but then reacted with horror that my account had been closed. That was the first thing I'd told her! She said she'd do what she could but I haven't heard a thing in over a month. Don't believe anything the CSR's tell you - they are all liars! Then again, if you don't like the answer you received, just call back and get another answer.

Grossly overcharging for oil & parts
Last fill the charged me $4.669 per gallon when market rate was around $3.30. They have been grossly overcharging me for months. I trusted them when they said they'd give me competitive market rates. It's on me for not checking but it's a huge violation of my trust.
Tech came out yesterday because my igniter was bad. Walked in and before he even opened the boiler he told me he wanted to change the controller for over $400. Then he opened it roughly, ripped out the nozzle, told me it was dirty and seemed REALLY annoyed to even be in my house.
5 minutes later he walks out, gets his tablet and said the total was well over $600. Skimmed over what he did, seemed annoyed when I asked him how much he charged me and I found out he replaced the nozzle and charged me $119 for the $20 part that I'm pretty certain could have just been cleaned.
Didn't show me any of the old parts and took me them with him.
The service call was just the icing on the cake, I had already decided to not continue doing business with them after I discovered the gross gouging on the oil price.

Avoid Petro – one of the worst experiences I’ve had with an oil provider.
Petro advertises automatic delivery as a premium service that you have to pay extra for. In reality, they do not deliver automatically at all. I had to call them every single time I was running out of oil, which defeats the entire purpose of paying for this “service.”
When you call for delivery, they promise fast service, but they often show up 8–9 hours later. When you’re completely out of oil, this means you are literally left freezing in your own home.
Customer service has been consistently unhelpful. Their priority seems to be charging fees rather than helping customers. They don’t listen, don’t try to accommodate urgent situations, and repeatedly push extra charges. Their prices are also far higher than almost any competitor, while offering a service that is far below standard.
They also charge cancellation fees, making it feel like they lock you in even if you are unhappy. You pay more to stay in a system that doesn’t deliver what it promises.
Maintenance checks are another issue: they ask you to schedule them 3–6 months in advance, and when the technician finally comes (for about 30 minutes), they regularly add more charges for “missing” items. It feels like a never-ending billing cycle.
Their online dashboard is inaccurate and practically useless, showing incorrect information about deliveries and tank levels.
Overall, Petro has shown poor reliability, poor customer service, inflated pricing, and no real accountability. I ran out of oil multiple times under their “automatic delivery” plan, and instead of helping, they repeatedly added fees and gave contradictory explanations.
I strongly advise avoiding this company. The service they promise is not the service they deliver, and the overall experience feels exploitative rather than supportive.
