On September 8th, I had a video interview with Meredith from Peaceful Profits about a freelance writing position. Afterwards, I received an email stating in writing that the next steps were to "complete a paid writing test—two 1,500-word chapters on a dry topic (email marketing)." This is a big project, and more than I would complete for an unpaid test (particularly when samples have already been provided). After submitting the project and requesting payment, I was told "The Fathom or AI might have mixed up words, but the writing sample was never a paid project." I'm incredulous that a company with a "Strict No-AI Policy" would not fact-check their emails for hallucinations or take ownership for their mistakes. (Meredith says she never discussed payment on the call, as if that settles it - but as a freelancer, it's standard to review what clients say in writing as the factual record, more so than a verbal discussion of project terms. Of course I would assume it was accurate - messing up the payment terms is a big thing for a client to get wrong!) As a freelancer, I would be very wary about working with this company, and I don't think it reflects well on their level of professionalism or attention to detail overall.

I cannot recommend Peaceful Profits enough!
