[content: I had one and only attempt to ask client to pay me outside of Pawshake. This is due to technical constraint that my account got prior to that date leading to previous clients cannot book me, though I agree that this is indeed a violation. Pawshake then has multiple responses toward this ONE incident (i) sent a warning letter; (ii) block my account; (iii) ask me to acknowledge their email to unblock me (I did); (iv) ask me to payback the money Pawshake lost - they didn’t, the client booked through Pawshake; and (v) ghosting me.
This is the summary of all responses Pawshake sent me the past few week for ONE CASE. ]
Thank you Jack for response to my previous email explaining how we should not bypass Pawshake platform. However, it is still not clear then which is the penalty for first attempt?
I could understand that If I keep doing it then you increase the level of scrutiny, fair. But mind you this is the same case - which I believe your colleague didn’t even read my explanation but sending me template responses.
Therefore, it is important to note, what is the CORRECT RESPONSE for first violation? Is it -forever blocking account-? I doubt it because I obviously receive a warning email that say don’t do it again, and so far I haven’t had any new booking. but if you want to make my account “inactive” forever, then let me know. Because then I can create accounts on other apps and receive clients there WITHOUT VIOLATING Pawshake Terms & Conditions.

Hi Nancy & Srujan Dang,
We are a little confused by your review, as your account was reinstated after the previous incident.
To clarify for all users: bypassing the Pawshake platform to take payments offline is strictly prohibited, and this is made very clear at sign-up. The official penalty for this breach is account suspension. In your case, the suspension was a result of attempting to circumvent the platform’s protections and financial obligations.
We also want to note that leaving a 1-star review in this context is a bit of an own goal, as it highlights the very reason your actions were problematic. Attempting to sidestep your financial obligations undermines trust with both Pawshake and owners. Publicly posting this review may make owners question reliability, which can negatively affect the business opportunities you receive.
We encourage all sitters to follow our Terms of Use carefully, as this ensures trust and transparency with owners and protects both parties.

Useless and not reliable
I've found this app to be largely ineffective. Most dog sitters show availability on their calendars, but in reality, they’re not. Every time I reach out to over ten sitters and never find anyone available. It’s especially frustrating when someone initially confirms availability, only to later back out. Unfortunately, this makes the platform feel unreliable and difficult to trust
Response from pawshake.comSep 27, 2025
Hi Luisa,
Thank you for sharing your experience. We completely understand how frustrating it can be when a sitter’s calendar isn’t accurate. We do ask our sitters to update their availability weekly, but unfortunately it is difficult to enforce. If you ever come across a profile that hasn’t updated their calendar, please let us know so our team can follow up and help improve reliability.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
Kind regards,
Jack

Not the safe option I expected.........
I booked pet sitting through Pawshake with sitter Jerrica in Albury. When part of the service was cancelled, I requested a partial refund for the unused days. Despite following up, Pawshake refused and told me the case was closed with no further escalation. In my view, this is unfair and unethical - I paid for services I never received. I am now escalating this matter to Consumer Affairs Victoria so other pet owners are aware of how Pawshake handles refund requests.
UPDATE TO MY REVIEW
There was no indication of their refund policy at the time of booking, only after the fact in fine print and only if you go into the small (i). The sitter pushed me to pay ASAP, even knowing my circumstances. There was no "change of heart" but a genuine reason beyond my control after only two completed visits.
Pawshake's reply is misleading- Australian Consumer Law does not provide a general "cooling - off period" for pet-sitting. That's their own policy, which they never offered me a refund under it at the time. Under ACL, consumers still have rights if services aren't delivered with due care, skill, or as agreed, regardless of Pawshake's "no refunds" stance. Consumer Affairs has flagged my complaint and are looking into it.
Protect yourself - read other reviews on Pawshake, as many seem similar to mine.
EDIT AFTER COMPANY'S SECOND REPLY:
Pawshake's response is inaccurate. I was pressured to confirm and pay before a proper meet and greet, so this wasn't a "change of heart". The service was never properly provided, yet they hid behind the sitter's policy to keep my money. This reflects a clear lack of accountability and shows the same dismissive pattern in many other reviews.
Protect yourself and read reviews across other public platforms before booking - the issues appear to be widespread, not isolated.
EDIT AFTER THIRD REPLY :
This response perfectly illustrates why I've had to escalate my case beyond Pawshake's customer service.
My cancellation was due to a genuine family emergency - not a "change of heart". The sitter was fully informed, and I acted responsibly and in good faith. Instead of acknowledging that, Pawshake continues to hide behind scripted policy explanations and imply customer error.
For a company that profits from each transaction, it's disappointing to see such a lack of accountability under Australian Consumer Law or even basic fairness. Their replies may sound polished, but they completely ignore the human circumstances behind the booking.
I won't be responding further, as this exchange reflects exactly how my original complaint was handled. I've since escalated the matter to head office in the hope others don't get misled or ripped off the way I was.

Hi Helen Milovanovic,
Thank you for your feedback.
We’d like to clarify that your booking was cancelled due to your change of heart while the service was being delivered, not due to any fault of the sitter or the service provided. At the time of enquiry and confirmation, you were shown and acknowledged the sitter’s cancellation policy on multiple occasions, which clearly states that no refunds are issued once a booking has commenced.
As per Australian Consumer Law, consumers are not entitled to a refund for services where they have had a change of mind or change of heart. Pawshake even provides a cooling-off period during which you could have cancelled and received a refund, but you cancelled after that period and once the booking was already underway. Cancellation policies exist to protect sitter income in these situations, as sitters set aside their time for confirmed bookings and often turn down other job and pet sitting opportunities to honour your booking.
We understand you are disappointed; however, Pawshake has acted in line with both our policies and Australian Consumer Law.
Kind regards,
Jack

Edited response:
Hi Helen,
Thank you for your updated feedback. We’d like to clarify a few points regarding your amended review. The cancellation policy is displayed prominently at the point of enquiry, permanently in the message thread, and under the price breakdown on the payment page, which must be viewed before paying. You had the opportunity to review this before making payment, so we would appreciate your honesty that it was shown to you. If it was not read, it remains the responsibility of the booker, as Pawshake makes it fully available and highly visible.
We are glad to hear your brother was released from hospital early. However, your subsequent decision to cancel the service—through no fault of the sitter— and subsequent refund is governed by the sitter’s own cancellation policy. Your circumstances changed, resulting in a change of heart about continuing the booking. The cancellation policy is in place as your sitter may have turned down other work to accommodate your long booking and would be left out of work and out of pocket due to your change of heart. Pawshake does not set these policies, and your sitter declined your request for a full refund. Under the terms of the booking displayed at purchase, you are not entitled to a refund. We kindly ask that you refrain from contacting our team further regarding a refund that is not within our control.
It should also be noted that the sitter asking you to confirm the booking the day before it commences does not constitute “pressure.” It is standard practice to confirm bookings before they start, especially on a self-service, pay-in-advance platform.
Kind regards,
Jack

Annulering

Horrible communications
Reached out to a sitter (Amanda in Bolton) in April for a two week boarding for our dog in September. She said she hadn’t yet planned out that far, but would get back to me soon to arrange a meet n’ greet. Two months passed, and I had to reach out again, asking if she sorted her calendar yet. There was no apology for the lack of response, and agreed to a Sunday or Monday evening meeting. She would let me know which worked for her (dependent on how late visitors would stay on the Sunday). Not hearing back, I reached out on the Monday. She said her kids stayed home that day because of heat stroke, and asked if we could meet on the Wednesday or Thursday instead. I responded by asking which worked best for her, and never heard back. How unprofessional.
I reached out to Pawshake. They expect sitters to respond within 30 minutes. I’m happy if I get a response within 24 hours. Clearly Amanda can’t be bothered to meet either expectation. I wanted to leave a review like this one on her Pawshake profile, but Pawshake only allows reviews after a booking. In my opinion, that is completely unacceptable. They said they would deal with Amanda internally, that this type of conduct would impact her standing, and that they would help me find another sitter. When I plugged in the dates I needed on a new search, guess who comes up as the first option? Amanda. Is that how her standing is impacted? Interesting how this works.
I am far more upset with Amanda than Pawshake, but extremely disappointed in Pawshake for how they handled the matter. Needless to say, I will never use either again, and will suggest that any dog owners who need pet care services also refrain from using Pawshake as well.

Hi Steven Armstrong,
Thank you for sharing your experience — we completely understand how frustrating this must have been for you.
We do want to clarify some points. The sitter you mention, Amanda, was suspended on 22 July and is no longer permitted to offer services on Pawshake due to this incident. Unless you were using a cached version of the site during your search, she should not appear in search results. Clearing your app or browser history will ensure you are seeing the most up-to-date results.
Regarding response times, Pawshake expects sitters to reply within 24 hours, so we’re not sure where the 30-minute expectation came from. However, we do take reports of unresponsiveness seriously, and we appreciate you bringing Amanda’s lack of attentiveness and scheduling delays to our attention.
We are sorry that your experience with this sitter was disappointing, and we hope this explanation helps clarify the situation. Your feedback is valuable in helping us maintain high standards for all sitters on the platform.
