I signed up for a month’s trial on…

I signed up for a month’s trial on Pawchamp. I tried watching one video and it was not very good. The editing was poor so I decided not to continue and hire a 1:1 trainer. It was only £20 for a month so I figured I hadn’t lost much money. Earlier today, I received a notification from the bank that I had paid another £40 to Pawchamp. I contacted the company immediately and asked them to cancel my membership and to refund the £40 as I believed I’d only signed up for a month. I had emails from two different representatives, both of whom told me I didn’t meet the criteria for a refund. At no time did I received an email/alert reminding me that my trial period was ending, although I hadn’t necessarily expected one as I believed I was only signing up for one month. I looked at this carefully and it was not at all clear that I was signing up for any longer than this. I would not have requested the initial £20 back, as it was my choice not to proceed with the program so that was fair. However, I don’t think it’s fair that they make it sound like you’re paying for a one month program and actually sign you up for an ongoing one, then not send you any reminders that the trial period is ending. I think this is a tactic to milk money out of people in a rather underhanded way. In the spirit of fairness, I would add that the two people who contacted me responded very quickly and were very polite. EDIT 03.04.25 After raising it with Pawchamp again and advising I had left a review, I have now received an update that they will be refunding the £39.99. Although I did not like the product (which is a very personal choice; I’m not saying everyone will feel the same), the customer service is excellent. Thank you to all the service advisers who assisted. I have now amended my review to reflect the good service.
