OnlineBookClub was dependably respondent -- they e-mailed me after I e-mailed them generally -- but severely dropped the ball in explaining what I should do. Sometimes they disagreed as to whom I should talk; sometimes they gave confusing instructions; and in the end, despite my paying fees, they cancelled my Book of the Day printing and offered me a substitute, about which I have had no clear explanation for 2 days and counting. Showing up is part of the game, but it is not the whole game. Bottom line: so far OnlineBookClub looks like a worthless enterprise to anyone who is not technologically savvy…the cancelling of my “day” is just inexcusable and probably litigable, but I shall not take legal action. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Richard E. Vatz, Ph.D.

The Online Book Club: Where Imagination Becomes Magic and Dreams Take Flight Scott leads an extraordinary team at The Online Book Club, including Kirsi, whose kindness and dedication helped me just yesterday. I imagine The Online Book Club as a magnificent treehouse, built not of lumber and nails, but of imagination, determination, and dreams. To enter, you must first climb the rope—a challenge that tests your resolve and earns you a place among fellow dreamers. And once inside that treehouse, something remarkable happens. Words become magic. Stories come alive. And dreams once thought impossible begin to take shape. As a young boy, I dreamed of becoming a diver for the legendary Captain Jacques Cousteau. It was an impossible dream. I didn't speak French. I couldn't dive. I had no connections to his extraordinary world beneath the sea. But I possessed something no one could take away: my imagination. Years later, after overcoming formidable challenges, I became the chief of U.S. Navy Bomb Disposal Team 11, serving as a special warfare combat frogman. Then came a devastating mistake involving marijuana that sent me to Boron Federal Prison Camp. My life took a turn I never could have imagined. Yet even behind prison walls, the lessons of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance endured. Drawing upon my Navy experience, I became chief engineer of Inmate Engine Company 52. Seventeen times, I drove a fire engine beyond those prison gates, red lights flashing and siren wailing, answering emergency calls to save lives. Even in prison, my dreams refused to die. And then, against seemingly impossible odds, the childhood dream became reality. After prison, I became chief diver and expedition leader for Captain Jacques Cousteau himself. And here's the wonderful irony: I still don't speak French! What followed was a five-year underwater odyssey of extraordinary adventures—diving among great white sharks, whales, and dolphins, exploring a world that had once existed only in the imagination of a little boy. Why do I share this story? Because I believe The Online Book Club represents something far greater than a community of writers and readers. It is a gathering place for people who understand that every extraordinary achievement begins with an ordinary person daring to imagine the impossible. Today, I am climbing another rope, entering another treehouse, and sharing another dream—this time alongside Scott, Kirsi, and the remarkable team at The Online Book Club. Together, we are doing more than writing books or telling stories. We are planting the seeds of imagination in the hearts of future generations. We are reminding them that failure need not be final, that adversity need not destroy ambition, and that the impossible sometimes simply takes a little longer. Thank you, Scott and Kirsi, for building a place where dreams are welcomed, stories are treasured, and imagination still has the power to change lives. After all, a little boy who couldn't dive and didn't speak French became Captain Cousteau's chief diver. Imagine what the next generation of dreamers might accomplish if we help them climb that rope.
