Why do some companies feel the need to use deceptive and questionable business practices? Ogrelogic appears to be another company using misleading outreach tactics. In April, I received an unsolicited email from someone named Chris using a Hotmail email address. The message said: “I am reaching out to see if there is anything that would like to upgrade, repair or redesign on your site. I am a web designer/developer that can do just about anything you can imagine at very affordable price.” I never contacted this company. I never requested information from them. Then in May, Chris followed up from the same Hotmail account and wrote: “I’m still awaiting your response. May I send you a created sample websites & Price? Please respond. Thank you..!!” I responded. After that, someone named Ash emailed me from an Ogrelogic domain address and said: “Thank you for your response! Chris passed this along to me — I'm Ash, Development Manager here at Ogrelogic, an IT Solutions Development team based out of Austin, TX. Great to connect with you.” So now I have questions. Chris presented himself as a web designer/developer. But once I responded, my information was apparently passed to someone else at Ogrelogic. Was Chris actually an independent web developer, or was this just a front email account being used to send unsolicited bulk marketing emails? At no point did Chris disclose that he was contacting me on behalf of Ogrelogic. At no point did he ask for permission to pass my response or contact information to another person. And at no point did I request marketing outreach from Ogrelogic. That is exactly why these tactics feel deceptive. A company should not be using vague personal email accounts, questionable identities, and unsolicited messages to get business leads. If Ogrelogic is a legitimate company, it should be transparent from the beginning about who is contacting people, what company they represent, and why they are emailing. Why do companies need to operate this way? Why not be honest upfront instead of using tactics that look like spam, lead harvesting, or deceptive email marketing? Businesses are tired of being targeted by unsolicited emails from people who disguise who they are, fail to disclose the company behind the message, and then pass contact information around once someone responds. That is not professional marketing. It is misleading, intrusive, and exactly the kind of practice that makes people distrust companies like this.

Barry, thank you for raising this — and you're right to. The outreach you received came through a third-party lead source, and the way it was handled (a personal email address, no clear disclosure of who was behind it, your details passed along without that being made clear) is not how OgreLogic should be represented. I've since stepped away from that source and tightened how we handle outreach. We've built digital products for clients for over 11 years, and the impression you got isn't the one we stand behind. I've also reached out to you directly. — Gaurav Sharma, CEO, OgreLogic

This company does not reply to emails.

Hi, and apologies, a message that went unanswered is on us, not you. That's not the standard we hold ourselves to, and I'd genuinely like to make it right. You can reach me directly at [email protected] and I'll personally make sure you get a same-day response. — Gaurav Sharma, CEO, OgreLogic

Like others, this organization uses aliases to generate leads. VERY misleading! I get multiple emails from "hotmail" and "gmail" address, the latest from a Christina.**5@hotmail. This is when someone from Ogrelogic takes over. I would never do business with someone as misleading as this, and neither should anyone else! It's not that hard. Be transparent up front. Either I'll respond or I won't. But now you ruined ALL trust and I would never do business with anyone that lies just to get a lead.

Thank you for the feedback, and we're sorry for any frustration caused. We'd like to respectfully clarify: we sent you a single email offering a complimentary website audit, and we identified ourselves clearly as Ogrelogic — we don't send mass emails or operate through anonymous accounts. It's possible our message got grouped in with other unsolicited emails you've received, which we understand is frustrating. If you'd prefer not to hear from us again, just reply to the email or reach out at [email protected] and we'll remove you immediately. We hold ourselves to proper standards around outreach and take these concerns seriously.

As confirmed by this company's CMO, OgreLogic uses an outbound marketing approach of unsolicited emails without an unsubscribe ability. This is both unethical and potentially violates national marketing laws. They have been sending unsoliceted emails under the names of David Smith for years and I have been unable to get them to stop. Avoid this company if unethical practices are not part of your values.

Total scam. They send out bulk emails claiming they looked at your website and will send you a report of problems they found. They use a fake gmail address. If you reply asking for this free report, they reply with their domain address email asking for your website. Which proves they never looked at your website. Why would they ask for your website url when their opening email said they looked at it and found problems. Total shame company. They claim the person with the gmail address is their marketing person and they use a gmail email so their domain doesn't get blocked for spam. In the end they never send you a report on your website because they lied about seeing it in the first place.

Shocking. No regard for data protection. They use scouts to send unsolicited marketing emails via Gmail with no regard for data protection laws. Totally unprofessional company.

Hi Craig, we emailed you only once. You incorrectly attributed all the unsolicited emails you received to our company.
