NIDO Review
My experience at NIDO for the most part has been really enjoyable! The staff are extremely friendly, always greeting you with a smile and a 'goodmorning' on your way past. They are also mostly enthusiastic to assist with any issues that arise which is very helpful. The rooms are of a lovely standard, large enough for my needs, with ample storage space and a nice sized bed. The bathrooms, although small, are again of a good standard, however the water taps are sometimes difficult to use, leading to issues with temperatures in the shower. The common kitchen area is well equipped with all the basic kitchen needs necessary to cook a proper meal, and the multiple fridges allow for enough space to store everyone's food. Again, there is great storage space within the kitchen as well to accommodate every flatmates pots, pans and plates. The free gym and common area are great additions that add to the experience of NIDO, and are definitely things i would recommend future residents to use. Although the laundry services, with washers and dryers is indeed handy, I find the price of washing to be quite high for the halls, considering the already very high rent fees. The introductory packs for the kitchen, bedding and bathroom again were extremely handy and allowed for an easy settling in. However upon purchasing these items, it was necessary to chase up the whereabouts of these items when I first moved in, after being promised that they would be waiting for me in my room. This leads me on to say, that although the staff are all lovely and extremely friendly, I sometimes find that they are quite disorganised with miscommunication occurring between members of staff. For example, maintenance is often requested multiple times by different members of a flat in order to see to an issue in the kitchen, or security not passing messages onto daytime staff. Furthermore, the use of fire alarms is something that needs to be drawn attention to. I fully understand that it is necessary to carry out routine drills. However, when these are not carried out properly (not properly marshalling people into an area, or informing them of what is going on), and the alarms are going off a few times a week, it comes as a cause to concern that when a real fire does occur, residents will be indifferent to the alarm (like many are now, that I know of). The events organised by NIDO are a great addition to the experience of the halls and I would definitely recommend new residents to involve themselves in these, whether it be the parties or the pub quizzes! Overall, i have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at NIDO and it has been a great first living location for myself in london.
