In order to return items, you need to go to the website and select what you are returning and they give you a label. I returned two items and they only processed one for $24.90. They offered no explanation for why the 2nd item for $55.92 wasn't processed and what recourse there is for them losing the second item. I have never had this type of issue with any company before.

Didn't get what I ordered and they refused to make things right.
Ordered 4 towels from the same line and color. MUJI delivered 3 and canceled the 4th without notice. When I asked them to send the missing towel or refund the full order, they offered to sell it back to me at 10% off — on top of what I'd already paid. After weeks of emails, customer support's position was that the remaining items were final sale, despite canceling part of my order after delivery. Not what I expect from MUJI.

Probably one of the worst user experiences on a website ever.
This is probably one of the worst sites I've used and I'm not talking about their direct customers service. I'm talking about shipping policies, website browsing, loading pages, searching, etc. I expected this from MUJI back in the 2010s because they were much smaller but we're in 2026 and the user experience of their site is horrible.
1. The search function sucks. They don't name things logically or the same way so if you search "pouch" or something, many items don't show up because they're called a "organizer" even though they technically do the same job.
2. Their category pages suck. There's missing items in the categories so you're not actually getting the full experience of seeing all available items. You think something isn't available or is out of stock but then find it under "You may also like".
3. Really archaic shipping policies. I understand for furniture and huge items, there's an oversize shipping fee, but I wanted to buy a telescopic handle for their broom/cleaning system and that was considered oversized.. if you could believe that? Can't they just retract the pole and call it a regular sized item? Makes no sense.
4. Ungenerous shipping charges of $9 flat rate so even if you buy one pen, or one spoon, it'll cost you $9 extra. FYI, minimum wage is $7.50/hr in many places still. Imagine working for more than an hour just to pay for shipping.
5. Laggy website especially in the kitchen category where there's multiple sub-sections that won't load on Safari so the page is all slow and blank.
6. In terms of web design, the MUJI logo is blurry on the navigation bar. Weird and mismatched fonts being used. Overly compressed images look blurry and unprofessional. Overcomplicated category display pages. Some very bad choices in colors that are not disability and WCAG compliant.

A disorganised shambles
A disorganised shambles. Placed an order for a single item, paying $15 for delivery. Over a week later and it has not dispatched. No updates provided whatsoever. Despite this, cancelling the order requires 'the case to be transferred to the specialist team'. Suffice to say I will never purchase from Muji again.

They use your personal data to sign you up for a bunch of marketing. There's no way to opt out. You can request your data be deleted, and after they have done that you'll still receive marketing messages. It's bad business practice, and they earned my one star review.

Scam artists -- purposefully have no customer service department -- no phone number, no chat, no dm/im, can't message via social media, etc. They have a cardboard email address that is answered by bot named Ken. They stole $100 from me.

Muji US has a packing problem
Apparently, from my own experience and reviews from their website, Muji US has a packing problem. I ordered 6 small ceramic rice bowls and they came in a huge box, with the bowls swimming around inside, with minimal bubble wrap. Two of the bowls were broken and it's a miracle that all 6 weren't broken. My husband, who's Japanese and a big Muji fan (the Muji stores in Japan), looked in the box and wondered if it was a joke. It was comical the way those 6 tiny bowls were sitting at the bottom of the huge box, completely unprotected. Like, did a toddler pack those bowls?
If you look at their damaged items FAQ you'll see the detailed process for submitting an email claim. It took me 30 minutes to send mine off, photos and all. Maybe I'm too used to Amazon's quick return process for damaged items, but it seems like Muji is leery of their customers making false claims or something, as if we're all living for the moment when we can sit down and write up a 30 min email, with "clear photos," about our broken bowls.
The ironic thing is that no country packages items better than Japan, so it seems like Muji would be very concerned that this seems to be a repeat problem with their US online store. I'll never order from Muji US again due to this issue. I have better things to do than type up lengthy emails w/ photographic evidence (including the invoice from the box, yes, they even wanted a photo of that; and photos of the *labels* on each broken item in addition to listing the items in the email) and this subsequent Trustpilot review.
The best part is that the email notifying me of my refund said that I didn't need to return the damaged items, I could just dispose of them. Wow! Really? Gee, thanks. This is not a customer-centric company.
