Bikes are very unreliable. Mostly damaged. If you park incorrectly no notice is given to you, and a fine is direct debited from your card. NO NOTIFICATION, so you don't know that was an infraction and keep on doing it, so they keep on taking money. You can email, ring, and the response is always the same. Not our problem sorry, but when I get a dodgy bike, I still pay the same fare, if the bike is not functioning properly, still pay the same and then have to dispute a refund.
