Review from a commercial server owner
It would be good but - A) punishments (bans/mutes) are usually unfair, as well as the entire appeal system. Appeals don't even really get read. Many well-known users are quitting in 2026 because of this. The 'Trolling' and 'Instigating Drama' punishment reasons are unfair about 90% of the time, and anything close to free speech (not to be confused with Freedom of Speech) is at an all-time low. B) Minehut is leading the Minecraft server industry in downtime. Minehut has some of the highest downtime amounts for all large Minecraft servers ever made. We get just about weekly crashes, and Minehut gets ddossed frequently, despise claiming to have "ddos protection" for their servers. How are you going to defend me from ddossing if you can't even defend yourself? Of course, Minehut's staff will be posthaste to lock chat so that nobody can complain after the server comes back up from having crashed. C) Prices... Yes. Prices are not great but they aren't terrible either. My biggest complaint would have to be the lack of a daily plan, as the option for a daily server subscription was removed a couple years ago. That had been extremely useful for temporary working on a server but then realizing you don't actually care about it anymore, which minimizes losses instead of forcing you into a month long subscription you don't want anymore. Of course, since most other server hosts don't offer anything like this, I can't really complain about it. D) EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR COMMERCIAL SERVER OWNERS. We don't have external servers anymore. If you're a big server owner looking for advertising for your Minecraft server, Minehut is NOT the place for you. Minehut has semi-recently completely locked down access to external servers under the guise of "user safety" and "improving moderation." This, as you may have guessed, is Minehut's very own version of "It's for the kids." Now, to get an external server, you'd have to go through the following process. 1. Put your server on FMCS (findminecraftserver). This is a Minecraft server list, similar to all the others, but Purple Prison isn't on #1. The process for that is extremely tedious and annoying. Once you finish that, you'll have to get yourself a Minehut partnership. "Now how do I do that?" you might be asking yourself. That's the neat part! — you don't. Partnership applications are closed with NO ETA on when they'll be back. You can pretty much bet they'll be gone indefinitely. However, if they were possible to obtain, you'd first have to verify yourself using the GamerSafer app, which requires a facial scan. Unlike the already sketchy age-verification platforms, such as Persona, Yoti, KID, etc, GamerSafer doesn't even *promise* to delete your picture after. Rather, it's confirmed that they keep them indefinitely. Well, more accurately, they keep the "geometric math" behind your face. But, if you are a technical person at all, you should know that really isn't better. Then after you basically doxx yourself to Minehut, you will have to follow up by submitting more forums to Minehut somewhat similar to the FMCS ones. This is not ideal at all. Fortunately, if you're willing to risk everything, there is a single workaround for all of this - sell your server to an existing Minehut partner or beg/pay them to put your server onto their account. I myself would never risk this but it is feasible. So yeah, STAY CLEAR of Minehut if you're already a big server owner. You should be getting your advertising either from a Minehut alternative (e.g. Minekeep) or use YouTube/TikTok to advertise. E) Player ranks are pretty much unaffordable. Player ranks are a necessity on almost all commercial servers, from Hypixel-sized servers to a small SMP with only 20 active players at any given time. However, Minehut has decided to implement player ranks in the stupidest, greediest, and most unaffordable way possible. Three tiers of player ranks exist: [MVP], [MVP+], and [MVP GOLD]. Most sensible servers would have, when using three tiers of ranks, either made all of them permanent, OR made the first two permanent, with the highest rank being a subscription. However, Minehut, in their infinite wisdom (this is sarcasm if you didn't catch it) has decided to make all three tiers extremely and extravagantly expensive subscription plans where the only real perk any of them have is removing ads (minimum tier: MVP, and yes — Minehut has advertisements everywhere) and supposedly having access to early access content (minimum tier: MVP GOLD). So yes, just like Hypixel's MVP rank, Minehut's MVP+ rank is completely useless and irrelevant. Misc/other stuff (running out of space): Minehut is 13+ because of ads Minehut has an annoying resource pack that wastes your time. Minehut's chat filter is hot garbage.
Response from MinehutJul 6, 2026
Thanks for your thorough review on Minehut. A) We try to maintain a safe and positive gaming experience for players, many of whom are as young as 13. This means that sometimes our rules and policies may seem a bit harsh to more mature players, and we have been working to strike the right balance. B) We have not had any unplanned major downtime recently. Our DDoS protection has improved, and we are no longer being affected by these attacks as we were months ago. There have not been weekly outages that have impacted our platform, so I'm not able to speak to that issue. C) Today we removed the time limit from all free servers, and we are still in the process of reviewing our server plan fees and specs. We provide more than just server hosting; our plans include access to a large player population, which makes it easier to grow on our platform. D) We paused external server plans for safety reasons. We have added the ability to view logs for them now, and we are working on a plan to bring them back. This plan does not include any requirements for applying; it will just be a plan you can purchase as it was prior to the pause. E) Ranks are optional, there are many ways to advertise your server, but our paid ranks start at only $5 a month. The ranks you've mentioned (MVP) do not include ads, they are player ranks that provide lobby perks. These ranks are also under review, as we agree there are too many different ranks. As for your other points, most platforms do have an age requirement. In our case, it's not strictly due to ads, but lowering this age requirement would require other changes such as age verification tools and removing chat for anyone under 13. Our resource pack helps provide a more polished experience for the lobby, but you can still join without it if you prefer. Chat filters are always a work in progress, and we are working to improve ours.
