Great product until you need a repair
I bought Milgard fiberglass patio doors about 4 years ago and have no complaint about how they look or work day to day. The problem was getting a routine repair done. When a glass panel broke (gardner yeeted a pebble at the glass with his weed-whacker), I called Milgard for a service referral. I gave my Orange County address and got sent to shops in San Diego that do not serve my area, and my follow-up email went unanswered for a week. On a second call a helpful rep gave me two names, but the one near me was unreachable across three calls and never returned my messages. Their best local recommendation was a dead end. The product added friction of its own. Several shops declined the job as soon as I said fiberglass, and the veteran installer who took the job told me the material chips easily and the black finish is hard to work with. Milgard markets these on strength, and structurally that may be fair, but the finish and edges are delicate and nearly impossible to color-match for a repair, which you only discover when something goes wrong. Sorting out my order and warranty was its own slow, disorganized process. For a premium product, the support behind it did not match. A finicky product needs a strong service network. This was the opposite.
