Worst working experience ever...
I am an experienced freelance translator, and I am writing this to warn the global linguistic community: Do not trust Lilt with your time or your labor. Over the last few years, this platform has rapidly deteriorated from a promising AI-assisted tool into an exploitative, faceless corporation that is actively erasing freelancer payment records. In the past, working with Lilt was already becoming difficult. On more than three separate occasions, I was completely shorted on my earned income simply because Project Managers (PMs) refused to respond to basic inquiries. It became obvious that their internal staff were under immense pressure to squeeze budgets as tightly as possible at the expense of human linguists. I let it go back then, but their recent actions have crossed the line from poor corporate ethics into outright financial fraud. A few months ago, Lilt migrated to a new payment model that can only be described as the worst epitome of hyper-capitalism. It is a digital sweatshop. Under this new system, I noticed that multiple completed payments went missing. To be absolutely clear: the money was not just delayed. The actual invoice records were completely wiped from their dashboard system. No more evidence of completed human labor. There is zero accountability because there are no longer any humans steering the ship. I have had a very minimum (to none) human contact with anyone at Lilt in the past months—not a PM, finance representative, or support staff member. Lilt has officially become a ghost ship. Their entire business model now relies on extracting as much money as possible from enterprise corporate clients while taking zero responsibility for freelancers' rights or the actual quality of localization. If you are a corporate buyer, know that your brand reputation is being trusted to a broken, automated system that exploits workers. If you are a freelancer, protect your sanity and stay far away. This isn't just a bad agency anymore; it is a nightmare. I'm losing around $1000 for the unpaid works. I hope some investors might realize that the money they earn comes from highly unethical practices.
