Nightmare Health Coverage
Nightmare Health Coverage
My husband and I purchased LifeX Research Corporation's Copay PPO health plan, paying approximately $950 per month. We believed we were purchasing comprehensive health coverage with access to a nationwide PPO network. Our experience has been incredibly frustrating, financially alarming, and has left me questioning whether we can rely on the coverage we purchased.
When we enrolled, our plan used the Cigna network. Effective March 1, 2026, LifeX switched to First Health. We received written notification from KMG Services, communicating on behalf of the plan, explicitly assuring us that providers and facilities previously in-network with Cigna would continue to have claims processed at in-network benefit levels, even if they were out-of-network with First Health.
That promise has not been reflected in my experience.
I am scheduled for medically necessary surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Baylor was in-network under our original Cigna arrangement, and I received two estimates indicating my financial responsibility for the hospital facility would be approximately $2,500–$3,141.
After the network change, Baylor informed me that the facility was considered out-of-network and increased its estimate of my financial responsibility to **$33,284.36**.
Imagine paying nearly $1,000 every month for health insurance, only to discover that a medically necessary procedure could leave you responsible for more than $33,000 in hospital facility charges alone.
Obtaining the necessary authorizations has also been unnecessarily difficult. I've spent countless hours communicating with providers, the claims administrator, and Baylor, trying to reconcile conflicting coverage information and secure the approvals necessary for surgery. The uncertainty has put my scheduled procedure at risk.
What makes this particularly troubling is that the network change occurred after we enrolled, and we were specifically assured that our existing in-network benefits would be preserved.
I purchased health insurance for financial protection and access to medical care. Instead, I have found myself navigating an exhausting administrative process while facing the possibility of enormous unexpected medical expenses.
As of this review, my situation remains unresolved.
**Consumers considering LifeX should carefully investigate who administers the plan, which providers and hospitals actually participate, how claims are processed, and whether representations about coverage are honored in practice.** Do not assume that the term "PPO" guarantees the access or financial protection you expect.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend LifeX Research Corporation.

Can I give minus 5 stars?
Can I give minus 5 stars? I paid $539 premium per month for 3 months (I canceled when I figured out it was a scam). Whenever I went to a provider’s office, the billing office looked up my information, including policy number, dob, and SS. This is 4 different medical providers- no one could find proof that I existed in the system, even though I had an insurance card. I had to pay out of pocket, in addition to paying premiums. I mailed in the claims once a month for a year, even mailing certified mail from the post office. I never received a response, not even a rejection or correction- absolutely nothing! I called and emailed, but was told that I had to do the claims by mail.
They willingly take the premium money, but provide literally nothing in return. This is obviously a scam.

if i could do a negative star i would
if i could do a negative star i would. We got scammed as well. Same as below reviews, denied my 19-yr old son coverage and asked for 5 yrs of medical for an appeal. NOPE. Never had coverage and have taken two months of premiums despite stating that they refunded.

Scary Company to do business with
Scary Company to do business with. After 2 months of paying my premium thinking I had coverage, I received a letter saying that they are terminating my employment going back to the date that I had signed up with them even though I paid my premiums. They said that I had not been truthful on my employment intake questions and sent no explanation behind the reasoning. When I asked them for what question I had not been truthful on, they sent me the question regarding neurology conditions. They list out about six conditions that you can’t have, I do not have any of those conditions. To appeal the decision you have to send five years of your medical records to them. Not doing that! I would never stay with them and trust that they would pay any of my claims. If I had used any medical services in the two months that I thought I was covered, they all would have been denied. The only good news was that they sent back my premiums to me, and luckily I did not have any claims!!!. Most companies outside of the traditional insurance providers will ask you all your medical questions upfront and then immediately accept you for their program or tell you what conditions they may not cover if you should go forward with them. This is not the case LifeX, just out of the blue you get a letter saying you are no longer an employee. When I was vetting the company I had read a review of someone who also stated that this happened to them. I thought maybe it was a one off but evidently it is not. Research all your options!!!!

If I could give negative stars to this…
If I could give negative stars to this company I would. To start KMG services who managed this insurance policy is absolutely criminal. They will take money out of your account before payment is due without warning. Life X and KMG are both very unresponsive. If you call you will only be met with dead lines or endless prompts leading to nowhere. Both companies have been put on the potential scam list in Tennessee due to negligent handling. Just google Life X research company in Tennessee. I will tell everyone Buyer Beware.

Run away, its a scam
Paid LifeX and Benefits Health Partner over $3000 in premiums, only to have them repeatedly tell doctors we dont have coverage. Customer service is not helpful, they just fake empathy and tell you they'll email a backoffice - that back office next follows up.
