What an amazing experience!
We traveled on the Grand Slam Alaska tour in June of 2021. It was an experience that was absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend this experience. Personnel: I can't say enough about the staff of John Hall's Alaska - they are all amazing! Matt and Sandy met us at the airport and Matt took us to our hotel in Anchorage. Matt was welcoming and provided us with lots of great information as we drove to Hotel Captain Cook. Even after arriving he was attentive to our needs as we waited for our rooms to be ready. Our tour began with a welcome breakfast which was facilitated by Elizabeth Hall and where we met our tour manager, Mark. Mark took the time over the length of the tour to get to know his guests and talk to each of them throughout. Over the course of 7 full travel days he shared a wealth of information about Alaska, Alaskan history, and culture. This enriched the overall experience for me. Food: I wasn't prepared for all the amazing food (and quantity) we would have each meal. Each meal was enjoyable and delicious throughout the entire trip. There was a variety and many times we had options as to what meal we would like. Dining locations varied from The Cookie Jar (for breakfast) where Guy Fieri visited for one of his shows to a log roadhouse for sandwiches and soup to Top Chef, Laura Cole's restaurant (229 Parks). Experience: We had a group of 13 plus Mark, our tour manager. Having the small group made the experience seem even more personal. We were able to talk with all our traveling companions and sometime even be able to eat all at the same table. I went into the trip knowing Alaska was beautiful, but was not prepared for how truly beautiful it was. I enjoyed the variety of modes of transportation that allowed us to see so much of Alaska: Alaska Railroad, boat tours, luxury motor coach and converted school bus. Each day was filled with activities and I truly felt like I got to experience a lot of the interior of Alaska. Seeing different glaciers was amazing, but seeing the Meares Glacier as close as we did and the beautiful blue colors weaved throughout it was more than I ever expected. As a dog lover, it was a treat to visit the Trailbreaker Kennels, learn about the sled dogs and hold the puppies. We were also blessed with 2 clear days in Denali Park which allowed for picture perfect viewing of Mt. Denali which really was a highlight during the trip. Overall: I can't say enough about this vacation and would travel with John Hall's Alaska again in a heartbeat. They truly take care of you and your needs. There are no worries about where you are staying, where you will eat your next meal, or even loading your bags. The staff is attentive, flexible when necessary, and there when you need them. I learned and experienced so much this trip - making it truly a vacation I will never forget. Thank you John Hall's Alaska!
