A really useful tool for CCTV planning
I'm a freelancer based in Paraguay, working mainly with IT infrastructure, networking and CCTV-related projects. One of the challenges I've found with CCTV planning is that there are quite a few things to consider before even installing a single camera. It's not just about choosing where to place them, but also checking coverage, viewing angles, image quality and making sure the storage capacity will be enough for the entire system. I came across JVSG IP Video System Design Tool while looking for a way to make this process easier, instead of having to rely on floor plans, manufacturer datasheets and separate calculations for everything. One of the things I like the most is the huge camera database. Having so many brands and models available in one place is incredibly convenient, especially when you need to compare different cameras or work with specific equipment. It saves a lot of time searching through technical specifications. Another feature that really stands out to me is the storage calculator. Storage is something I pay particular attention to when planning CCTV systems, and I really like being able to estimate the required capacity based on the number of cameras, recording settings and retention period. It's especially useful when dealing with larger systems, where storage requirements can quickly become significant. I also find the 3D visualization and coverage analysis very helpful. Being able to see what a camera is expected to capture, check pixel density and identify possible blind spots makes the design process much more practical than simply placing camera symbols on a drawing. I'm still getting familiar with all the features, but so far I really like the combination of visual planning and technical calculations. Having these tools together in one application is a big advantage, and I can definitely see myself using it for more complex CCTV projects in the future.
