I rented a vacation condo from JJ Property Management in Selva Escondido 2 in Nov/Dec 2025. The unit was okay. However I have not received my deposit back and the communication has been poor.

We rented Unit 23L in Selva Escondido…
We rented Unit 23L in Selva Escondido Phase 2 (condos) in Puerto Morelos for three months (November 2025–January 2026) through Jodi Jensen, owner of JJ Property Management. Unfortunately, our stay was marked by ongoing maintenance failures, safety concerns, and a negative experience with the property manager.
From the start, it was clear that the unit was not properly inspected or maintained. On arrival we encountered broken furniture, decayed beach chairs, mold in the bathroom, a clothes dryer that was incorrectly installed, and clogged drains in both showers and sinks. These were not isolated issues but signs of long-term neglect.
The water system was the most persistent and disruptive problem and impacted us for 2.5 months. The water pump and heater were not fully functional, resulting in:
• Cold or no showers
• Highly inconsistent or non-existent water pressure
• Toilet malfunctions
• Leaks from multiple locations causing frequent flooding that required regular mopping up by us
• A plugged main water filter
• A very loud, worn-out water pump that eventually led to a neighbour complaint
These issues continued throughout our stay and could likely have been resolved quickly by replacing the pump and heater. Instead, the non-working equipment was left in place and repeatedly “patched,” which did not solve the problem.
Most distressing, we experienced a gas leak in the laundry room that had clearly been present for months (evidenced by a persistent rotting-cabbage smell). This was not repaired until the third month, near the end of our stay.
The ongoing failures meant tradespeople were in our unit more than 11 times, often for hours at a time, repeatedly disrupting our plans and daily life.
In addition to the physical issues, interaction with Jodi Jensen was extremely challenging. She consistently minimized, justified, or dismissed problems (e.g., “we’ve never had problems in this unit before”), showed no empathy, and offered no sense of apology for the situation. Her lack of professionalism and people skills significantly worsened an already distressing experience.
We fully understand that things can go wrong in rentals, and we are patient renters. However, the root causes of these problems clearly existed before we moved in, and ongoing band-aid fixes were ineffective. The stress and disruption negatively impacted what should have been an enjoyable and relaxing time in Mexico.
We share this factual account so future renters can make informed decisions. We do not recommend JJ Property Management, and we strongly advise against renting Unit 23L in Selva Escondido Puerto Morelos.
Prospective renters should also be aware that independent information about this company and the Selva Escondido complex is limited to pre-screened, positive comments only. JJ Property Management has no Google reviews, and the only reviews available are self-published on the company’s own website, or controlled on her Facebook page.
We strongly recommend connecting with local Facebook groups for snowbirds and expats in Puerto Morelos to get referrals to other, well-reviewed property managers.
This was an unfortunate and costly learning experience for us, and we hope this review helps others avoid a similar situation.
Adding to this, we have not received our deposit of $1400 back.
