Eighth grader here. I’m a straight A student on the verge of throwing desks at the near mention of IXL. You can answer 20 questions to get an 89 SmartScore just to go back down to 70 in one question. My A student friend is constantly answering 150-200 questions per lesson just to get bare minimum assigned by our teacher (90).

IXl is harmful and dangerous for kids…
IXl is harmful and dangerous for kids learning. One time my friend put in the right awnser to it's question, but it freaked out and it reset his entire score. Multiple times i have used it it makes me panic and stress out. Sometimes it even makes me cry. teachers should stop using IXL because it. Hurts and damages kids mentally. That platform is a terrible and harmful.

Makes it feel hard to learn
Alright, so I've had to use IXL since I was in 5th grade (I'm now in 8th grade). I feel like no one is truly using IXL to learn; we only do it because we are being told to by our teachers. Also, I must say that the Smartscore system is not fair at all at the beginning of the IXL you get more point usually around 10 to 15 and if you get a question wrong you lose around 1 to 2 points while when your smart score gets to 90 you earn 2 to 3 points and lose 7 to 10 points this is really frustrating and instead of motivating me to learn it makes me want to quit and look up the answers later. And the worst kinds of IXL's have to be the reading ones, you're telling me I need to read 8 paragraphs just to get 1 question right. I don't think any kids these days have an attention span for that, which is why they should try to adjust. If you have to learn with IXL with a learning disability, too, that would be super hard, and there is no way that you can try to have the administrator set it to a mode where that person can learn better. For example, my 10-year-old brother always has a really hard time with IXL because he has ADHD. This kind of "learning" is really hard for people like him. I really feel like IXL either needs to improve how it adapts to the kids or scrap the idea at this point, because it can be stressful in the end.

Middle Schooler-
IXL is the worst "learning app" I have ever been forced to come across. After "learning" until you get to around ninety...you might get one wrong. Great! Now you're back to 75. It is detrimental to student's mental health and learning journey.

I developed stockholm syndrome from IXL, having over 65 hours of time in it. I believe I have not learned a single thing from it yet despite using it as a past time in school. I’m a 10th grade OCD diagnosis who used to have a 1200+ math score in it and every time I get anything wrong interia of IXL intoxicates my ability to think and retain my appreciation for the subject.

Terrible
Hi, I have made an account just to write this.
As a student myself, I HATE IXL. That is despite the fact that I am a Gifted and Talented student who finishes her work and gets high grades consistently. First, the "SmartScore", It, one, makes it feel that if you don't have the highest possible score, you're dumb. And two, if you get a question right, you get maybe 1-5 points, not bad. However, if you get one wrong, it takes away DOUBLE that, sometimes even up to 15 points!! This only makes students afraid of failing, not inspiring them to do better next time. It increases my stress at school, especially since I have so many other things to do, like concerts and practice for orchestra, and math homework, and art projects! I have actually cried over these, especially when I was little, and that's coming from a 6th going into 7th grader with a "career ready" reading level and all As and Bs AND having nearly skipped 3rd grade.
So, in summary, IXL sucks booty.

WORST APP EVER
This stupid “learning tool” is one of THE WORST things I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. it has kept me up for hours trying to do and I have cried on many occasions because of this thing. I have even had to get my parents to do it because it has been so mentally draining to do and my parents hate it too. this app is honestly the worst thing to have to put students through and the teachers at my school know what’s happening with the ixl’s. they know kids hate them and they still assign them. I have become so scared to submit my answer even on other platforms because of this insane app. I absolutely despise ixl and all the teacher who assign them. Sur there’s videos to try and help you on the subject but to put it simply they don’t help at all. I would rather have to beat the entirety of xtra math again then have to use this app. One star.
