IXL is immoral and torture
I had to use IXL from 3-8th grade; I have mental health issues, and I also have dyslexia, a ADHD, and Autism, which makes my learning needs look much different. I have missed over a year and a half to school, so they made me do IXL even more. In sixth-seventh grade some terrible things happened, and I built my entire identity on being a good student, being “smart”, and having good grades. I got assigned IXL a lot and my depression got so bad that I tried to take despawn, it worked, my heart stopped for a little over four minutes; I have brain damage and a nervous system disorder now. In no way was my decision IXL’s fault, but IXL is still at fault. The weeks leading up to it I do a math IXL thing that night and I had gotten to 99 “smart score” (which that name itself makes it seem if you don’t understand, get a question wrong, or even if you type the right answer in a different format you “stupid”) and I got three questions wrong and my score went down 52!!! This wasn’t even the first time it had happened, but usually I just had a panic attack and those were the good nights. This is what happens when you torture a kid with the one thing they want to do. I used love learning and now every time I have to learn or practice something new I get so anxious I throw up. Now I’m back in school, I’m so sick all the time now it’s making my entire life, even the basic tasks, impossible. I know I’m not the only one because my friends and people I don’t even care about had the same experience.
