Disappointing Experience for a $3,600 Matchmaking Service
I would strongly recommend doing your research before purchasing a membership with It's Just Lunch Denver. I paid approximately $3,600 for the service, and based on my personal experience, I would not make that purchase again. I joined because I was looking for a more personalized alternative to dating apps and understood that my preferences and feedback would be used in selecting matches. Throughout the process, I was very clear about what I was looking for and provided feedback after my dates. Despite that, I repeatedly felt that the matches presented to me were not well aligned with the criteria and preferences I had communicated. Two experiences were particularly concerning to me. One man I was matched with disclosed to me during our date that he had previously been in jail. Another man I was matched with disclosed during our date that he had received a DUI. I am not making any claims about either individual's character or about what IJL knew beforehand; I am simply stating what each person told me and what I personally experienced as a paying client. Given the amount I paid for a professional matchmaking service, these experiences made me question whether the service was providing the level of matchmaking I believed I was purchasing. I communicated my concerns and feedback to IJL throughout my membership. Ultimately, I requested a refund because I did not believe the service I experienced justified what I had paid. My refund request was denied. I understand that matchmaking cannot guarantee chemistry or a relationship, and my complaint is not that IJL failed to find me a partner. My concern is that, in my experience, the quality and compatibility of the matches did not reflect what I expected from a personalized matchmaking service at this price point. If you are considering signing up, I recommend asking very specific questions before paying: what criteria are actually guaranteed versus simply considered, what screening is performed, how large the active pool of potential matches is in your area, what happens when matches repeatedly do not meet your stated preferences, and exactly what refund options you have if you are dissatisfied. I would also read the entire contract rather than relying solely on what is discussed during the sales process. This review reflects only my personal experience and the information that was communicated directly to me during my dates and interactions with the company.
