We are sorry to hear you have not enjoyed the experienced and have not had a meaningful connection with the 9 dates we have provided thus far. We are hard at work on your next date.

A lot went wrong
My experience has been deceiving, disappointing and unsatisfactory. I am disheartened by all aspects of this situation. I had placed my trust and vulnerabilities in Vanessa and Brianna.
The information call..
You receive a call or text from someone trying to schedule a time. They are persistent in their attempts to reach out. Once you get on the phone with them, they present an amazing pitch. After discussing the program, they then mention that there is an interview process involved as well.
Vanessa will make you feel great. She complimented the photo I sent via text and told me the dating pool was big “so let’s get you started.”
Once agreed you are asked to read the contract while you’re on the phone, I asked to call them back to review the contract. I was told I could, BUT the offered discount would no longer be valid.
Based on my understanding, men are required to pay a monthly fee for as long as they want, while women are required to pay a larger sum for a duration of only six months. It appears that I was matched with individuals who had been with the company for a while, which is not an issue in itself. However, at that point, one wonders if the matchmaker is properly conducting their due diligence. Are they genuinely striving to set you up on a date that would provide a positive experience, or are they simply arranging a date for one of the male clients they know is in need of a good experience?
Returning to the signing-on process... You provide your criteria to the matchmaker, including age, religion preferences, important personality traits, and DISTANCE. You hang up feeling excited to meet the two new matches they already have for you. Needless to say, I specifically requested dates that were nearby because I knew I would not be willing to drive long distances to meet someone. I made this clear to them from the very beginning on the sales call.
After the sign on you are inundated with calls for the next few days. One from your “dating coach” one from your matchmaker (Brianna). This company is a well oiled machine. With all of these calls and encouragement you are so excited you don’t think to cancel within the 3 day refund policy. Again- all well thought out.
I emailed Vanessa the next day asking the success rate. She responded by saying “I am very good at what I do.” Etc;
Brianna is the “matchmaker” that works under Vanessa. I found her to be a pro at deflecting concerns
Matches
The first time I discovered that my date was in Oakbrook, I reached out to express my concern. I was told that my dating options would be limited. However, considering the fact that there are 2.5 million people in Chicago, there must surely be potential matches within the actual city!
Despite this, I continued to be matched with individuals whose midpoint was a 45-minute drive away from me. After going on three dates with people who were far away or from far away (one person even came from Rockford), I reached out once again to discuss my frustration. My matchmaker/sales person, Vanessa was deceivingly personable and appeared to understand and address my concerns. At the end of our conversation she said "I actually feel closer to you and feel I know you better to find the right person."
I thought we were on the same page, only to discover that my next match was once again in Oakbrook (yet another midpoint), resulting in another 40-50 minute drive for me.
That is when I conducted further research to determine if I was the only one experiencing this frustrating situation. It turns out that many people have also experienced it. There was a class-action lawsuit filed (and settled) in NY against them concerning the contract. It is important to note that a class action lawsuit involves numerous individuals.
While the Chicago IJL is "independent" you will notice that the same complaints were reported which is struck the media attention in the other states (Denver and Florida).
I contacted my team regarding the class action lawsuits and other related stories. They chose not to respond via email and their responses were cautious. How can trust be established under such circumstances?
They do not engage in a lot of email exchange and respond to emails via phone calls. A careful strategy to minimize legal responsibilities.
A significant amount of money is being spent to conceal negative reviews when conducting a search. This is extremely disappointing.
Moreover, they will never reply to any review they receive by taking any accountability and often indicate that the consumer is wrong.
Anything other than "I'm so sorry for your disappointment. How can we make it better for you?" is a poor reflection on your business.
Now, I hope to prevent others like myself, those involved in the class action suit, as well as those influenced by local news stories, from being scammed

HI Jamie, we have shared your review with the Chicago matchmaking team who will respond to you directly as they are an independently owned and operated IJL location. Thank you.

I was recruited by Jake 2 years ago this coming December. I ended up agreeing to sign up and paid more $$$ than was a good idea on my income. I have not met half of my promised 12 meetings. My last one was in July 2023. Despite being told I'll be offered one meeting a month I have not heard a peep, even to just check in and say there are no men in my age group at the moment. I actually received a solicitation e-mail about signing up!!! IJL stinks and is a fraud. I am requesting reimbursement by December 2023 or my next step is the BBB. Jean King

Save your money it’s a scam
Honestly - what a scam. Signed me up for 12 dates in 12 months early in 2021. I did one virtual date with a guy who was extremely rude. Then couldn’t find me another date. When I asked for my money back after several months, they said they had an indefinite period to provide the dates within! Nearly 3 years on and I’m getting married to someone I met via an ordinary dating app. Maybe they don’t have enough U.K. clients on their books but they should be up front about that. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Ps The dishonesty in their reply claiming is exceeded a hold period (because they couldn’t find me a second date) tells you all you need to know about this company

We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience as our records indicate your membership did expire for exceeding the available hold time you had under the term of the membership. We appreciate the feedback and wish you the best on your dating journey.

IJL has little response to negative reviews. No surprise.
Notice below that positive reviews get a thank you but it’s generally crickets for negative feedback. Check out their class action history before signing up. We won’t see our money back but let’s not enrich these scammers anymore.

I would give a 0 stars if it were an option. This company does not provide any services they offer. They are ridiculously expensive and fill your head with lies of hope that they will match you with great potential dates and do nothing. Not one potential date. They have a prop date they use in the beginning to make it seem like they’ll really match you and as soon as you say yes they come back and tell you he’s no longer available. They have not presented me with any suitable matches. I’ve written several emails and they always come back with “I’m working to find you a potential date”. It’s a total rip off! Worst experience as a consumer I’ve ever had. Stay away save your money it’s a total scam!

Do NOT sign up with IJL
Do NOT, do NOT, do NOT sign up with this company. It is a scam from top to bottom. They make promises on the phone but as soon as you pay your money, they stop dealing with you. I paid $4900 and have had exactly ONE date which was not very good. But it’s the only one I’ve had. They no longer answer my calls or emails and I haven’t been a member even a month yet. I was promised 24 dates or 12 months, which ever came last. Well, at this rate it will take at least until 2040 for me to have 24 dates. If you say you want your money back, they refuse, get off the line, and stop any contact with you. This company is a total scam from top to bottom.

Don’t waste your money on IJL
This is going to be a roller coaster, so buckle up! (If you don’t want to read the whole thing- sparknotes version: DO NOT use Its Just Lunch. If I could’ve left a ZERO star review, I would)
I was absolutely amped to try this dating service. They market themselves well. My initial consultation was with a bubbly, enthusiastic and positive woman named Lauren. Lauren convinced me to pay an obscene amount of money for 12 months of their service because she promised there were so many eligible bachelors in my area matching the description I gave them. I was pretty open. Seeking a male ages 28-38 (I’m 30) who is educated and fun and kind. I’m looking for someone at least a little bit taller than me (I’m tall, 5’8”) and someone with a career and life aspirations. Someone who has their life together and is ready for a mature, serious relationship. Lauren listened and had wonderful follow up questions and assured me these men definitely exist in my area. It broke down to about $500 a date. With all that money I was spending, I assumed meals would be compensated (at least a bit) but they weren’t. IJL sent us to some of the most expensive restaurants in the area (which is not the kind of $ I’m trying to spend on a first date). I was “matched” with a couple people early on... Who were quite outside the range (either age/ height/looks/ oh the life path I’m seeking) from what I had explicitly asked for… but my “matchmaker” (a socially awkward man named Shawn) bullied me into meeting them- “it’s the connections that you take a risk on are the ones that work out best!,” he said. Truthfully, each date IJL set me up with was more and brutal. I am a successful business owner, I own a beautiful home in town, I am a strong confident woman, I take my physical and mental health very seriously and I present myself professionally and elegantly. I was met with boys who presented poorly, couldn’t hold conversations, lived at home with their parents (nothing wrong with that but I’m at a different phase in my life), had no dining manners, didn’t ask me any questions about myself (even after I asked them numerous thought provoking questions). Quite frankly, these men are the kind of guys who “think the tinder/ hinge/ bumble algorithm doesn’t work for them.” I found myself struggling to have anything in common with these individuals. I was notttt having a good time. Occasionally, I would be given options for men in their 40s or men with children from previous relationships. Both of those options are not on the table for me but I kept getting pressured by various “matchmakers” to meet them “he’s such a great guy!” I was even told once to my face that I’m being shallow and picky… Eventually I found out that another girl I’m friendly with had also recently signed up for IJL… We compared our “dates” and they were all with the exact same people in the area…. So there is clearly ZERO “matchmaking” being done here… It’s just you get paired up with random humans who are close by that are also in their system. At this point I was furious and tried to reach out to Lauren. I emailed and called many many times. Finally I got the picture, she had ghosted me. I think Shawn must’ve quit or gotten fired… so I was bounced from matchmaker to matchmaker (all of whom didn’t know me nor took any time to get to know me or my preferences) sending me increasingly sparse yet increasingly unappealing matches. I then had a month-long family emergency where I was away from my phone and e-mail the entire time. When I got back, I found that my multi-thousand dollar account with IJL had been FROZEN due to inactivity. At this point I just wanted my money back… But it looks like that is not in the cards. I haven’t received any correspondence back from anyone when I bring up canceling my service. I would not recommend It’s Just Lunch “matchmaking” to anyone who is actually looking to be matched with someone with any value as a human being. That may sound harsh but I am a high achieving woman looking for my counterpart. You will certainly not find that here. Spend your money elsewhere, hun!!!
