Poor service means charging customers for what they don’t need
We have been using Hubstaff for over 10 years, but our recent experience was extremely disappointing. An upgrade was triggered accidentally and too early, at a time when some seats were still assigned to team members who had already left. We contacted Hubstaff within minutes to explain the situation and ask them to cancel the invoice. Despite the immediate notification and our long-standing customer relationship, Hubstaff refused to refund the upgrade fee, stating that the upgrade process requires multiple clicks and confirmation. While I understand that companies need policies, this felt extremely rigid and customer-unfriendly. After more than a decade as customers, we expected a more reasonable and service-oriented response, especially since the mistake was reported immediately and the timing of the upgrade caused charges for seats that we did not actually need. This is exactly what makes the experience so frustrating: instead of making money by providing a service that customers actually need and benefit from, Hubstaff charged us for a service we clearly did not need. That is the definition of poor service: making money from unnecessary charges rather than from genuine customer value. Another major issue is the lack of transparency around billing. In our experience, Hubstaff does not make it clear enough what exactly you are being charged for, which user seats are included in the invoice, and what status a user must have in order not to be charged. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to understand and manage billing, especially when team members leave or accounts need to be adjusted. In addition, the product has become less attractive over time. Features that were previously available in lower plans seem to be pushed into higher-tier plans, making it feel like teams are being pressured to upgrade rather than genuinely supported. Based on this experience, we can no longer recommend Hubstaff as confidently as we once did. Long-term customers should be treated with more flexibility, fairness, and transparency, not charged for services they neither wanted nor needed.
