Houfy is a great alternative to airbnb and VRBO. Once more people realize that you don't need to pay those exorbitant "service" fees that are being charged by VRBO and airbnb, I think those companies' stocks are going to tank. If Houfy can scrape together enough money for 1 commercial during the Superbowl like Homeaway did about 14 years ago, they will take off. Some things that can be improved from an owners point of view would be better technical support support. I relied heavily on Gemini to do the initial setup. In addition, I would like to see more flexibility to showcase my cancelation policy. From afar, I have to say I have a no refund policy in order to have my own customized cancelation policy. All in all though, this is the best "no service fees" site I've found. It's like what Homeaway used to be where owners just pay an annual fee to get put directly in touch with the customer. My big fear is that once they start threatening the billion dollar profits of airbnb and vrbo, one of them will make a huge offer to buy them out and make them disappear. Hopefully by that time, people will realize that they can find owners directly if they just do some online searching. Once people realize they can text me, verify that I'm really the owner by sending me a coded message through vrbo or airbnb, they will be able to book with me directly and cut out the middleman for 10 to 15% savings. Greed will eventually kill airbnb and VRBO.

Thank you for a review this thoughtful. You've described the model better than our own marketing does — owners in direct contact with guests, no middleman fees, the way it used to be. The two improvement points you raised are fair and useful. Setup shouldn't have required leaning on an outside tool to get through it; better, more hands-on technical support is something we know we need to build out. And the cancellation policy limitation is a real one — having to choose "no refund" just to customize your terms works against you, and more flexibility there is worth getting right. Both are going to the team. Grateful to have owners who care enough to tell us exactly where to improve.
