I started a VPS hosting for a month to test and to experience the service. But could not pass the installation stage. After hours of working on the multiple issues I have simply given up. The support is fast to react but that does not mean they can handle any issue. They kept asking for details and for pictures, even for the most simple ones that should be handled easily. At the end, the tickets are escalated to a higher support level and nothing happens there. I spent 10 straight hours. 10 hours for installation of the site. and it did not work and had to point back the site to my previous hosting. I believe reliability is the main bottleneck for many hosting providers including hostwinds. They say it is managed VPS but nothing is managed indeed. Even you have to install and upgrade the cpanel and cpanel plugins. Even after that you end up with a mess. No matter what you do the SSL never works. They cannot handle even a simple SSL issue. Stay away!

Do not be surprised if money is taken from your credit card without notice, and do not trust all their "deals" with all "small print"....

Like a lot of people that have posted recently an issue with this company. I too was affected by their facility outage that left me with no emails and websites for 5 days or so. I have never experienced anything like this from a hosting company. I have experienced server crash/hardware failure before with other companies but everything has been back working within 24 hours. Hostwinds took a long time to fix their issue and during this time all emails sent to my addresses bounced back with an error and someone trying to access my websites got a time out message. Even after they "fixed" their issues, my emails were bouncing back to people who sent them to me with errors. Like others have said, they lost all the emails stored on their servers and email filters configurations that I had setup. I wouldn't trust this company with anything that is important. Also, they mention "We're so confident that your service will always be online, we offer a 99.9999% Uptime Guarantee." but it means nothing. They will only give you a credit for a day that the service is down (only if you ask for it) and you cannot use this guarantee to terminate your account and get a prorated refund.

Lost all my email and my website because their server crashed. They claim they backup their servers every night so I was sure they could get it back. It took them five days to respond and tell me that the backup has gone and there is nothing they can do. Why did I commit to a three year contract?

The site is barely functional. Can't seem to get anything done. Customer care is non-existent.

I have had an account with Hostwinds for a few years, most of these marked with unprofessionalism and incompetence on their part. It was a constant issue with their servers being blacklisted for spam (they obviously dont have spam procedures in place), so my emails were often not delivered, or went into spam boxes, not good if you to rely on people actually receiving the emails that you send. Icing on the cake was their 'hardware failure' which for 6 days has meant no websites, no emails sent or received but worse still they have lost all my data, years worth of mail in my mailboxes have been lost forever. No apology, nothing, just an unresponsive Tech Support. Hostwinds run a terrible unprofessional incompetent untrustworthy service! Steer clear if you value your data and sanity!

i have paid for an account yesterday and today i have received a notice that my account is consider to be a fraud !!!
