Home Instead in Trumbull treats their employees like dirt. They allow the clients and clients family members to abuse the caregivers for long periods of time. When you request repeatedly to be removed they hang up on you, gaslight you, and then terminate you for going above and beyond with your job duties. They do not protect you and stand in your corner. Being proactive, thorough, practicing cleanliness is frowned upon. Basically show up to your shift and don’t lift a finger for $16hr and let the proactive caregiver take being put down by the office and clients everyday for hours nonstop. Find a better more sympathetic and protective company to work for.

Find A Company That Actually CaresOnce upon a time Home Instead Senior…
Once upon a time Home Instead Senior Care was a good company that looked after both their workers (each branch was franchised) and the clients. Now that Honor (a tech company) bought Home Instead, I have both personally experienced and witnessed a huge decline in the care and attention needed from a company in charge of senior citizens. As a caregiver, you will be earning less than half of what the company charges the clients. As a client, your bill will be inaccurate almost one hundred percent of the time and never be able to reach anyone when you call because everyone is “in a meeting”. This company is a sad little shadow of what it used to be before Honor took over. Go elsewhere!

One Less Employee Forever
I was working as a caregiver in Iowa CIty and I thought that it was a good company to work with until I witnessed some things that weren't so good. First of all, I ended up getting sick with the stomach flu and today, June 26, 2024, I had to take my son into the hospital for the same thing. The manager, Becky, decided to fire me through the email that she sent me and then later decided to call me "to see if I had gotten the email." She likes to gaslight people due to having issues in her past so she thinks it's okay to do it to other people. The secretary, Theresa, likes to talk bad about the clients behind their backs. So I had an issue with a client the other day and couldn't figure out with to do and Theresa told me that the clients "likes to complain about anything and everything." I would be very careful around these two people and I would document everything as well as take pictures.

A little heads up
A little heads up, what you can expect, from Home instead, if you go for an interview with them.
This was the Norfolk/Cambridge branch, in the UK.
So, yesterday I had an online interview with Home Instead, and I thought it went fine, but obviously not, as I didn't get the job.
The young man, said that at the end of the day, he would contact me, he didn't. I had to chase up an answer today.
It is what it is, not getting the job, that one has applied for, but the reasons given were so completely untrue and unfair. But that just shows, that if a company is behaving like that, then it is of course, best not to work for them.
The reasons they gave me was, that I didn't show interest in the work...I was shocked to hear that, as I most definitely showed great interest, in working with the elderly clients. I kept on asking questions, whether it was ok, to do gardening with the clients, and cooking, baking, painting, arts and crafts etc.
I also asked for advice, in how to deal with challenging situations, if they should arise.
So, I did ask many questions about different scenarios, and also asked if I could do certain activities with them, such as gardening, baking, etc.
If that is not showing interest, and involvement in the job, I don't know what is.
Then they also mentioned, that being dressed in a hoodie, was not considered appropriate and unprofessional...Now this also shocked me, as my hoodie was down, it was obviously NOT over my head, it was down, so my whole head was visible, of course.
I was wearing a clean hoodie, casual relaxed clothing. For this line of work, I would have thought, that this was accepted, as you are to spend, a lot of time, with the elderly client in their homes, so being in comfortable clothing, is a must.
This is not a front of house position, in a corporate business, or in a Hotel. This is looking after elderly clients in their homes, for two weeks at a time, so relaxed clothing should definitely be accepted.
But clearly it is not.
Another reason, was that I didn't have a fixed address...also not correct. I live in between my caravan, and my art workshop at the moment, while I am looking for a house. However, I have a postal address, where they can reach me, and most importantly, via my phone obviously.
I will anyway, be away for two weeks at a time, with the client, so those reasons, are completely unfounded.
The only thing, that was close to resembling any truth, was that I didn't know much, about the company, other than it takes care, of elderly people.
I find this to be so irrelevant, whether you know the whole Wikipedia, about the company, when it was created, every single detail, etc.
They work with elderly people, provide in-house services for them for two weeks at a time, that involving, cooking, gardening, walks in the park, shopping, etc. that should be enough to mention that, and I did.
You may know, all the bio about the company, but still not be a good carer, that doesn't ensure, that you are good at your job. It is about being good with people, and I am.
it is some weird criteria, and very robotic, the way they judge, whether you are suitable for the position or not.
In this case, the reasons, they gave me, about why, I didn't get the job, was also very untrue and unfounded.
It seems like they are very incompetent rigid and soulless, no passion for engagement with people, nor do they seem to have any skill, in hiring people.
They seemed more interested in the job candidates, knowledge of the company logistics, and how they are dressed, rather than if the job candidate is a warm, caring person, who really would be good as a carer.
Their reviews speak for themselves, they have 63% one-star reviews and less than 30%, five-star reviews, and that is from both relatives of the clients and people who have worked for them, or been in the onboarding process.
Cold and uncaring people. Would definitely NOT recommend Home instead.
So now you know, what you can expect, from having an interview with Home instead.

After training and starting work at…
After training and starting work at home instead Worcester, I was not informed it would be a zero contracted hours… so as I wanted to further my career in care, I got offered a job with the NHS to work and train as a nurse associate and get a degree. I got a voice mail from the manager Karen very rudely asking what is going on, as had received a reference for me, she called me into the office and asked what it was about , when I explained I wanted to further my career in care and be a nurse associate, she snotty said “ and what is that” so I explained I’d get a degree in nursing. She said I was not a fit for home instead and would not go past my probation, which is fine by me.
I said I would drop my bag of supply’s off but a family member past away, I emailed Karen explaining a family member past away and would get the bag to her the next day….. I received an email from Abby stating that I would not be getting paid for the hours I’ve worked and trained for…. I emailed back stating that By law (Employment Rights Act 1996), your employer must pay your wages on your agreed pay day, I have contacted head office through phone and email and no reply…. Avoid this care service at all cost !!!!!!!!

Home Instead Care - Rip Off
My elderly mother with Alzheimer's got home instead care from 16th January 2024. Unfortunately she went into hospital on 17th Feb 2024 and ended up in a nursing home so home instead had to be cancelled from that date. Whilst I cannot fault the carers that came to see mum for a total of 4 hours only per week I think the company are greedy as my mum has ended up paying £1502 for a total of 20 hours care as she had to pay an initial £200 registration fee and had to pay for 30 days after she went into hospital for no carers caring for her. Rip off company.
