I recently went through the interview process for a Worker Experience Coordinator position at HireArt and wanted to share some feedback about the candidate experience. First, I found the timeline quite difficult from a candidate perspective. I was contacted approximately a month and a half after submitting my application. After going through several stages of the process, I was ultimately informed that I was not selected, but I was also told that detailed feedback is not currently available and that candidates may receive it at some point in the future. I understand that HireArt receives a large number of applications and that hiring decisions can take time. However, if a company invests in a structured and fairly extensive application process, I believe timely communication and meaningful feedback should be part of that experience as well. Candidates also invest significant time and energy into these processes, and feedback is particularly valuable because it allows them to understand what they could improve. I also found the interview itself somewhat unusual. The interview was supposed to be an opportunity to assess my experience and suitability for the role, but I was asked relatively few questions about my background. A significant portion of the conversation consisted of the interviewer encouraging me to ask questions about the company and the role. I appreciate having the opportunity to ask questions, but I would have preferred a more balanced conversation in which I was also given enough opportunity to demonstrate my experience against the requirements of the position. One particular moment of the interview stood out to me even more in hindsight. I was given a scenario involving a contractor asking about paid vacation, which contractors are not eligible for. The interviewer explained that we should not simply respond with a blunt “no,” but should approach the situation with empathy and communicate the limitation thoughtfully, while also highlighting the benefits and options that are available to the worker. I thought this was a very relevant example of good Worker Experience practice. However, after going through the full application and interview process, I was ultimately rejected without any explanation of what was missing from my profile or what I could have done differently. I understand that companies may have limitations around providing detailed feedback, but I found the contrast somewhat ironic: candidates are evaluated on their ability to communicate difficult information with empathy, while the candidate experience itself could benefit from that same approach. Overall, my main suggestion to HireArt would be to make the candidate feedback process more transparent and timely. If candidates are evaluated using a structured scorecard, as the rejection email suggests, sharing at least some meaningful feedback after the process would make the experience much more valuable and respectful of the time candidates invest. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about HireArt and the Worker Experience Coordinator role, and I remain interested in the type of work the company does. However, I believe there is room to improve the candidate experience, particularly around interview structure, communication timelines, and meaningful feedback. At least, I didn’t have to wait another month to find out that I wasn’t selected.
